vampire!vi who acts all menacing but gets embarrassed when someone new finds out she's a fruit bat.
"I love vampires! It's so amazing to see one up close."
"oh yeah? and what if I suck you dead?" she snapped at you, annoyed by how cheerful you were at six in the morning.
"well judging by your ears, aren't you a fruit bat?"
"wh—n—I'll kill you!"
vampire!vi who starts warming up to you little by little. p.s, she likes to pretend it was just the fruit that made her like you but we all know she fell because of your lethal face card, too.
"are you seriously still trying to talk to me? you never give up, do you?"
"I brought banan—"
"fine we can talk."
vampire!vi who ends up asking you out on a full moon.
"you know, for bats full moons are," she leaned in so close your lips brushed against hers, "full of opportunity."
before you could control yourself you were crashing into her, wrapping your arms around her and sighing into her mouth in relief as you finally, finally kissed her like you'd been waiting to for months.
"does this mean I get even more fruit baskets?" she murmured against your lips with a smile.
vampire!vi who gets really drowsy during the day and cuddles up on you while you're trying to study
"baby, get in the bed." you smiled, turning your head a little to look at her—face planted in your shoulder, black hair falling onto your skin in loose threads, and body sagging.
"no, 'm awake, swear..." she murmured into your skin, fading in and out of sleep.
vampire!vi who starts scent marking you because she thinks you don't know what it means
"mmm, love you s'much," she sighs as she hugs you from behind, rubbing her cheek in the crook of your neck.
"you know you don't have to mark me, right? I'm not going anywhere," you tease.
"shut up."
vampire!vi who never loses you in crowded places due to her excellent eyesight.
"hey, have you seen my girlf—oh! hi vi, how'd you find me?" you smiled, looking up at her as she loomed over you.
"all in the eyes, remember babe?"
vampire!vi who thinks you're the sweetest fruit she's ever had the pleasure of tasting.
The Rodrigues flying fox (Pteropus rodricensis) is a conservation success story with one hell of a cute face. This endangered bat species is native to an island in Mauritius where they serve as important pollinators and seed dispersers. In the 1970’s their numbers had dropped drastically due to hunting and habitat loss, and the bats were facing imminent extinction. Scientists and conservationists in Mauritius leapt into action to protect the wild bats and worked with zoos around the world to establish careful breeding programs in a bid to save the species.
Despite their population once falling to fewer than one hundred individuals, Rodrigues fruit bats have made an incredible comeback! They now number in the thousands and these focused captive breeding programs have ensured that the species maintained remarkable genetic diversity despite their close call with extinction.
The Rodrigues fruit bat was once called the “rarest bat in the world” and I am so grateful to the people that took action before it was too late to save the species. We’re so lucky we can still see this charming little face in person.
Sulawesi Flying Fox Acerodon celebensis
The species is endemic to the Sulawesi, Buton, and several smaller Indonesian islands. The Sulawesi flying fox is a frugivore, feeding preferentially on coconuts and breadfruits. Following birth, the baby flying fox, called a pup, develops a strong bond with its mother. Aside from nursing the young, the mother carries her pup out of camp each night in search of food. While flying, the pup holds onto the nipple with its adapted, curved teeth and grabs onto the mother's waist with their feet.

I saw your pregnant wolf hybrid Robert post, and immediately had an idea, lol
When Robert was born, he wasn't expected to survive. Robbie hadn't let something like pregnancy slow him down, even with his heightened wolf instincts and worse-than-typical symptoms. He kept going out as Mecha Man well into the pregnancy despite everyone's warnings, and surprise surprise, got into an accident that sent him into an early labor
He'd been expecting a full litter (he was unhappy with it, but instincts were VERY happy, more pups to pass the legacy onto), but he gave birth so early that almost all of them died shortly afterwards. All except one
By some miracle, Robert survived. He was the smallest, weakest, and least wolf-like of the entire litter, but he was the sole survivor
----
Knowing that he was a preemie when he was born, Robert definitely fears the same for his pups. His dad having him so early had been something preventable, rather than a complication, but knowing that it was a possibility terrifies him
(also, the mental image of Robert cuddling with Alfie and going full wolf mama with him is genuinely so adorable)
Prev.
Robbie becoming emotionally distant with his surviving pup, out of fear of feeling that same grief all over again.
He likely never told Robert that he was nearly one of many siblings. Maybe he tells Robert that he had been a preemie due to simple bad luck. There's probably a shrine hidden deep inside the old house with little statues representing the lost pups.
Robert wouldn't know how to feel if he ever discovered this fact - most likely from Elliot or a Brave Brigade member. He very nearly had a childhood full of rowdy brothers and sisters to love and fight for. I imagine if he had known beforehand, he wouldn't step a single foot into heroism once he learned he was going to be a parent.
Robert bounced back pretty well from his preemie status, all things considered. He probably has a few health conditions that were more pronounced when he was small.
Notably, Robert thought he was infertile up until he fell pregnant with his pups.
History nearly repeated itself with the Mech Suit explosion, but luck or maybe even extra precaution (what pilot flies without an eject button or a paracute?) spared Robert's pups from harm.
Robert lies on his side, contemplating his swollen middle. It had been a miracle each one of his four pups had survived the explosion.
He's currently living with Victor - the manbat that found and calmed him down from his worried dire state. Upon waking from the coma, Robert had been so convinced that he'd lost or irreparably harmed his babies that his wolf instincts took the helm and convinced him to flee.
Since the wolf-hybrid now needs to be kept under observation for his feral instincts and medical states, and he's now technically an ex-fugitive - it had made perfect sense in Victor's mind to move Robert into his apartment.
The fact that the manbat already knew how to care for a wolf-hybrid was a major bonus.
Alfie yawns from his place against Robert's breast.
The larger wolf cannot contain the smile that bubbles up from deep within as he nuzzles his face into the pup's warm grey hair.
The toddling puppy wasn't his by blood, he was Victor's through adoption. But that didn't stop Alfie from assuming Robert was his other parent.
And to the uninformed, it certainly seemed that way! A grey-furred pup in the care of a grey-furred bat and a pregnant wolf-hybrid made many observers do the math and come to an easy answer.
Even the daycare staff at SDN Torrance referred to Robert as Aflie's "Papa/Mama" when they first met him, and Robert didn't even think to correct them.
Alfie deserves nothing less. His story did not begin kindly. Victor confided to Robert the horrific events that led to the pup's discovery and adoption after a particularly bad nightmare. How the barely-months-old pup was being prepared to be traded and reared to be a weapon rather than a child. How he followed the Megabat's instincts, and two refused to let eachother go.
And now, the pup seemed adamant on not letting a Robert get away easy either.
Robert doesn't mind. He kisses Alfie's head as the pup sleeply leans into the affection.
After all, he'll make a wonderful older brother.
