Prêt-á-Manger Desserts & Ice Cream by Wild Sweets
Just in time for summer (hello there, Summer Solstice!), Wild Sweets owners and award winning chocolate-makers Dominique and Cindy Duby have some exciting new treats on offer: Prêt-á-Manger Desserts & Ice Cream. I was able to visit their retail store for a sample tasting of their line of hand crafted, ready-to-eat desserts which take inspiration from the classic French verrine - a dessert layered with ingredients of different colours, texture and flavours. The desserts come in individual sized cups, which I think is great for when you want a dessert just for yourself at home, and pretty handy to bring out when you have guests over, or if you’re looking to bring desserts on the go when over for dinner with family or friends.
The ice cream desserts have a frozen parfait base topped with a scoop of ice cream. I really like how the flavours complement each other, yet you can taste each of the components distinctly. I especially enjoyed the strawberry pistachio ice cream (which has a pistachio parfait base with the addition of nut butter for extra texture), as well as the hazelnut passionfruit ice cream. The parfait is very rich and creamy, and the candied nuts sprinkled over the ice cream give the dessert some crunch! The ice creams are best if taken out a half hour or so before eating to let it slightly thaw to really bring out the flavours.
