The Wings of My Boys

Summary:

Even though time was ticking, the Bad Boys were still family.

Or: A moment of peace on Limited Life, where Joel learns how to take care of wings

Jimmy hissed a little, as Grian hummed soothingly, plucking out a broken, but not too lose feather.

"You're doing great, Tim." Grian continued to hum and clean out blood and mud from the rest of Jimmy's golden feathers. No one knew why Jimmy would suddenly end up with beautiful canary wings on his back whenever a new Life season started, but he had to get used to it. Maybe it was a gift from the same place he got his curse from.

His hands clenched around his shirt and jacket on the ground, as Grian smoothened the feathers. Jimmy had just respawned from a rather deadly fight that the Bad Boys just had, and somebody got him right in the wings. Jimmy closed his eyes shut as the other wrapped a strip of bandage covered in healing potion around his right wing, breathing deeply.

"And, done! There you go, good as new." Jimmy was immediately stopped when he tried to move it around a little "Not good enough yet! You'll need to wait for a few hours, Timmy," Grian scolded, rolling his eyes.

"What about yours, Grian?" Jimmy asked, eyeing his fellow avian's dull white wings.

"Oh they're fine," Grian waved his hand dismissively. "Just a little bit of loose feathers and such, but I'll–"

"What is going on in here?" A confused yet curious Joel popped his head into the room.

The two Bad Boys glanced at each other.

"We're preening our wings...?"

Joel blinked.

"...Am I supposed to know what that means?" He asked after a moment.

Jimmy scoffed in disbelief. "Yes? How do you not know what preening is, man?" The Canary asked, waving his hands around dramatically.

Grian chuckled. "Not everyone's an 'always the first one out' canary bird man, Timmy," to which Jimmy pouted. He turned to Joel "Preening is just cleaning and plucking out dead feathers from wings, Joel. I'm done with Tim, but I'm gonna work on mine. You could watch if you'd like?"

Joel agreed, and they all sat on the cobblestone floor of their new base. Jimmy put his shirt and leather jacket back on and sat next to Grian, who had holes in the back of his clothes to let his wings out. He had much bigger and longer wings than Jimmy, as in it would stretch out enough to cover Grian whole.

"Wings are usually different, in everyone, in every world," he held his right wing for Joel to see. "Back on Hermitcraft, I have macaw parrot wings. But in the Life series, I usually have my wings recolored to white. It doesn't change the original structure though, just the color." He moved his wing up and down, watching Joel's eyes move along with it.

Even Jimmy was in awe, even though he had heard this many times before, back in 3rd Life and Last Life.

Grian then proceeded to explain the entire process of preening, cleaning off grit, removing dead or loose feathers, combing them out with your hands, applying oil for it to be healthy etc. Joel nodded in understanding, listening to every word in detail.

"Do you wanna help? You seem pretty interested," Grian said with a smile

Heat rose to Joel's face, and he looked away in embarrassment. "Nah, no thanks. Don't wanna mess it up or anything."

Truthfully, he did want to try it. Joel had only ever had Elytras before, not full on beautifully natural wings. It was a feature that Joel admired in many people, especially Grian and Jimmy now. He was terrified of accidentally ruining them.

Grian rolled his eyes and pulled Joel closer to him. "You don't need to be so tense." He laughed, to which the other ducked his head.

"I know, but I don't want to, you know, do something wrong and hurt them–"

"Awww, that's adorable!" Jimmy cooed. He was never gonna let that go.

Both Grian and Jimmy shared a laugh, while Joel was a flustered mess. But could you blame him? He really did care about his bad boys. This time, they were allies, friends, and most importantly, family, after all.

Grian slowly took Joel's hand and let him run it through his feathers, watching as the other's eyes practically glowed in awe. Jimmy did the same, to which Joel practically melted. He was so happy to know the two trusted him enough for such an intimate action like that.

Joel was dubbed an honorary bird winged Bad Boy after that, Grian and Jimmy agreed.

From then on, all three would sit together for preening.

Though…

it didn't last for too long.

Imagine Lifesteal SMP, but in a pirate setting!

Ever since Branzy's little pirate videos this idea has been rattling in my head for so longgg.

My au is mainly just Branzy-centric, but I was thinking of adding other characters like from Echocraft and Kaboodle smp!

It starts out simple. Captain Branzy just got his first ship and his childhood friend Rekrap introduces him in to the pirate life. He was doing pretty well, a small crew and fortune to his name.

Unfortunately, Rek is part of an even bigger crew (Captain Parrot's crew) and keeps it a secret from Branzy. When Branzy starts to grow and gain attention, Rek betrays him. Once, when Branzy was hanging out with Rek in Rek's ship, Captain Parrot's crew plunders them. Branzy almost dies drowning.

At first he thinks Rek's been taken, but finds out that it was his idea in the first place. Vengeful, Branzy climbs up again all alone on his ship.

But he is not the only pirate captain that has been with Captain Parrot, and certain connections are made along the way.

🦀 - A favorite piece of dialogue

🦀's are winning today.

So this is from a fic that is finished but I still have to edit, which I cannot edit because I have to finish editing my current fic and its a chain reaction.

But this little tidbit is funny to me:

"If you have marked her, then perhaps you are blinded by your doubt to think she might not mark you in turn. You are a fine man of character, you have a fortune, you have good breeding and mannerisms. Not to mention, you already are on good terms with her mother! And believe me, had I had my way, I would have noted Mrs Jennings behavior before being taken with my current wife. She is insufferable!"

"Your lady wife or your mother in law?" He jested, and could not help the laugh at Thomas' glare. 

"I take it back! You, sir, have no manners!"
