The Sky : Looking Up

Perhaps the sky has become a luxury, and this precious commodity for daydreaming and enlightenment is now limited in consumption. As an empty blue canvas lies before me it offers an ever present reminder of the world beyond worlds, but this infinity is now framed by glass, pane, frame, and aperture. As we settle into weekly routines our axis point remains ever more constant; our windows become sundials, the steadiness of each day ever more present as a perceptible feature of dappled shadow, silhouette, hue and other hallmarks which flicker across surfaces of the home. The horizon and skyline appear more difficult to decipher. We instead seek comfort in possible Constable, Rothko, or swirling Van Gogh skies, projected through our minds as memories. Each blue pigment now a prominent effusion. We are free to look up, but looking up is no longer as endless as it once was. A close friend consciously reminds me to cross fingers and make a wish each time a jet stream appears: the less you see, the less you travel, the less boundless our world becomes. I reflect on the distance being the same… there is no end, limit, or conclusion.
