Book Review - Realm Breaker by Victoria Aveyard (Spoiler Free)
Rating: ** 2.25/5
Pacing: medium/slow
Book Description:
A strange darkness is growing in the Ward. Even Corayne an-Amarat can feel it, tucked away in her small town at the edge of the sea.
Fate knocks on her door, in the form of a mythical immortal and a lethal assassin, who tell Corayne that she is the last of an ancient lineage—with the power to save the world from destruction.
Because a man who would burn kingdoms to the ground is raising an army unlike any seen before, bent on uprooting the foundations of the world. With poison in his heart and a stolen sword in his hand, he'll break the realm itself to claim it. And only Corayne can stop him.
Alongside an unlikely group of reluctant allies, Corayne finds herself on a desperate journey to complete an impossible task, with untold magic singing in her blood and the fate of the world on her shoulders.
My Review and Thoughts:
I honestly didn't love this book. While there were some good qualities like the representation of different cultures, a few wonderful plot twists, and the characters there was a lot that brought the Realm Breaker down.
Right off the bat I found it hard to get into. I never really got submerged into the book like I do with others. I was never sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for what happens next. There were way way too many POV’S for me to keep track of. Too many places were named so i had to have a map out of all times. Which is fine but it was hard to follow. While all that was going on trying to keep up with character names and relations was a trip.
As much as I wanted to love this book because it sounded so interesting I just didn't. At the end of it I found myself not really caring about the characters or their mission. So I don't think I will be continuing this series unfortunately.
Quotes:
“Untrustworthy, unfit, too weak to rule. History gorges itself on women raised high and then brought low by men grasping for their power… I will not be one of them.” (pg 143)
