Mainewash AU where Wash is deaf, and Maine is mute. Imagine them developing their own language that Maine doesn't have to speak, and wash doesn't have to hear, like how Anne frank had people draw pictures and words on her with their fingers. Imagine them talkin shit about who kings mustache, south, and everyone. They eventually tell Connie and Carolina the code and they basically form a shit talking club. I like to think that there was a bad mission that involved a bomb exploding right next to Wash, injuring him and deafening him. Once he wakes up in the infirmary, Maine is there, concerned as ever because hey, it’s his roommate, and Wash tries to tell Maine that he’s okay, but realizes that he can’t hear his own voice and starts to break down and Maine just brings him into a hug while Wash calms down.
I feel like Maine would teach him sign language first off then make a secret code just to piss everyone off and Wash is slowly falling for this big freelancer who makes no noise other than the occasional growl when he’s extremely pissed off and doesn’t know how to tell him.
So one day Wash just goes up to Maine and sticks two fingers on his own lips and quickly moves them to Maine’s heart and mimic’s a heartbeat, then moves his fingers to Maine’s lips and repeats the heartbeat over his own heart.
Maine is confused at first but then Wash kisses him and everything makes sense, everything is so CLEAR. And god, he kisses back, he kisses so back so passionately, and he didn’t even know he felt so strongly about the other freelancer, but he felt so safe, so loved, like this was his home.
So they stand there kissing and of course York passes by and signs that they need to get a room before Connie and Carolina see them, because their sisters are SO NOSY, so they go back to their room and get into Maine’s bed and cuddle, but they keep repeating the sign with the two fingers on each other, and this sign became their special sign for “i love you.”
[Forward to the Meta]
Wash was trying to protect the Epsilon unit, that horrible AI that ripped apart his very being from the Meta. The man that he once loved, that cared for him more than anyone else.
The Meta picked up Wash by the throat, bruteshot in hand, ready to kill the freelancer at any moment. Wash, in an act of desperation, starts to sign to him. First he signs, “Cameron, are you there? Cameron please, it’s me. It’s David. Your David.”
The Meta gives a quizzical growl, but ready’s his bruteshot anyway. He’s about to strike the fatal blow when Wash moves two of his fingers to his lips and places them slowly to the cool white armor that the Meta was wearing. The Meta watches him through this, confused, losing it’s objective to old memories of the man that once was.
Wash thumps his fingers on the Meta’s chest, then moves his fingers to the golden visor that blocked the Meta’s face. Wash brings his hand back to his own chest and mimic’s his heartbeat. The Meta drops his bruteshot and rips off Wash’s helmet to see the freelancers face, covered in dried blood and fresh tears.
The Meta removes his own helmet, wishing to reach some clarity. His heart hurt and he felt something akin to sorrow when he looked at Agent Washington. No, not Agent Washington. David. DAVID.
Suddenly the Meta drops Wash to the ground and puts it’s hands on it’s head, as the old memories of him…no, Maine and Wash….Cameron and David….who was he anymore?
Wash crawled toward the Meta, seeing it struggle with itself. Wash sat himself right across from the Meta and repeated their sign, getting closer and closer to it’s face in hopes that Maine might break through. Wash signed one last time, only inches from the Meta’s face and kissed him. It was a kiss of longing, of pure desperation, and Wash began to cry at how much he missed this.
With no response from the hulking thing before him, he began to pull away, when he felt something push him back. It was the Meta’s hand, and it was kissing him back. Wash cried harder, not knowing if his friend had really returned until it pulled away from him and repeated their sign.
MICHAELA I FINISHED THE FUCKING THING. snapshots of Bucky's progress towards being happy and healthy and dealing with the effects of TWS and more for willow-ridgewell, you gay little bunny (thanks for the fab art <3) (naturally, click the link for the whole actual story) ~ He is whole, every inch and every piece is Bucky. Steve wants to find it progressive, he wants to scribble it down in a notebook somewhere. Today is the day Bucky was okay. But also, Steve really just finds it ridiculously hot. It's utterly indecent, Steve thinks. It's the kind of photograph you'd hide underneath your mattress. It's the kind of image you'd stutter while trying to explain.
