and the chief of police at the MPPD.
FC NAME/GROUP: Chen Bolin / Actor
GOD NAME: Guan Yu
PANTHEON: Chinese
OCCUPATION: Chief of Police, City Council Member
DEFINING FEATURES: A green tattoo of a dragon spirals around his entire right arm. It’s maw opens up at the end of his wrist and glows when he uses his powers.
PERSONALITY: Even as a deity, Guan Yu has kept the same traits from when he was a mortal. He upholds the grace and dignity that he hopes his friends would be proud of. Anything sly or underhanded is beneath him. He keeps true to his word, and seeks to bring justice to those with ill intentions. He is benign, even for being god of war. He often tries to avoid fights, but that does not mean he doesn’t enjoy them.
Though he tries to be lighthearted, he is very judgemental. First impressions mean a lot to him. Once he does not like someone, he will continually treat them with little care. If someone acts slyly or beneath his idea of honor, he will scorn them. Often he can be stubborn and even arrogant. He believes in only his ideals, and anything less is dishonorable in his eyes.
HISTORY:
一. Guan Yu was far from a valiant hero when he was young, nor was he a god from birth. Left on the streets by his birth parents, he was found and adopted by a scoundrel. He taught Guan Yu how to steal, and fight dirty, anything that would keep him alive. Yu didn’t know any better. He mindlessly lived life on the run, drifting from village to village. It wasn’t until the outbreak of the Yellow Turban Rebellion that Guan Yu had found his calling. He volunteered to fight against the rebellion. It was there where he met new friends, and his lifelong allies, Zhang Fei and Liu Bei.
二. The life of a thief was put behind him as he and his friends swore loyalty to each other. Their home was falling apart. People questioned the emperor and his power. Liu Bei wanted to change the world. His ideals of a perfect land where the emperor ruled with benevolence charmed his allies. With their combined strength, they believed they could unite China. The Emperor’s power waned, and together, they established the kingdom of Shu. It was a turbulent period for China. Three Kingdoms arose, vying for control over the land. Each conquest of the three warriors was won. While all were capable fighters, Guan Yu stood out the most. To his adversaries, he was unstoppable. A brute, arrogant, but they could not deny his prowess on the battlefield. His friends saw him as the embodiment of honor and justice. He upheld all of his promises and never broke the bond they shared. To the common man, he was a protector of the weak. He had made a name for himself amongst the gods and man; the Saint of War.
三. Over the years, many battles had been fought. He had befriended new allies and certainly made many more enemies, but he fought with the same fervor in hopes of helping his and his friends’ dreams come true. Unfortunately, his honor was a double-edged sword. While he was certainly honorable to all, he was stubborn and arrogant. His reputation got to his head. He made a grievous mistake of angering one of the warlords of a neighboring kingdom. Rather than accepting a gift from him, he scorned it and even went so far to insult the other. While his kingdom had a loose alliance, all was shattered by him. The warlord Sun Quan wanted his head, and allied with the third kingdom, Wei, to bring Guan Yu down. While he was able to flee for a time, it was inevitable that he would be overpowered by the two kingdoms. In his arrogance, he had not only been captured, he had weakened his friend’s kingdom. Sun Quan would execute him, claiming the feat of ending the Saint of War.
四. Still, even in death, his spirit yearned to achieve the peace that he sought for China. The gods in heaven allowed his spirit to enter their home, where they granted him the title of the God of War. A shrine was created in his honor, and soon people would pray to him in hopes of protection or good luck in battles. For a time, he would stay with the gods, blessing those who fought for honor and upheld their allegiances to each other. But he was a restless man, and eventually he returned to the mortal world where he fought to protect the people and see China become the peaceful world his brothers wanted to create. He became a nameless warrior, a background character who would help China achieve victory after victory.
五. Now, he seeks peace. A home to return to after years of traveling. Mount Phoenix was a place whispered amongst the gods in heaven. His curiosity got the best of him. He had always wanted to travel the world, and this seemed like a perfect way to ease him into the world outside of his homeland.
POWERS:
Guardian’s Blessing: With a touch, Guan Yu can place a magical bond of protection on someone. He can then sense when they are in danger, and when in dire need, summon his celestial war steed to quickly reach and defend them. The bond’s strength wanes as time passes, and he must refresh it to be able to sense the other.
War Arts: As most war gods, Guan Yu is a master in all forms of war. He can summon his weapon and warhorse at will. His presence inspires others to fight. While in a battle, he can swing the tide in whatever favor he chooses. He wields most, if not all weapons with expertise and is knowledgeable in hand-to-hand combat.
Blessing of the Heavens: Guan Yu was not always a god, as such he has been gifted immortality and godlike strengths.
STRENGTHS: He can keep calm in the most dire of situations and his presence leaves many feeling safe. Guan Yu is very trustworthy, and finds it beneath him to start things out of pettiness. He is not easy to anger and is a stalwart defender of innocents who are not apart of the conflicts of the world.
WEAKNESSES: Quick to judge, he is not afraid to tell those who he does not like his honest opinions of them. Some may see him as arrogant, as he believes only his ideals of the world are the correct ones. Stubborn to the core, he is unable to give up and cannot stand to lose in serious matters.
