the whole separate rooms thing is something i hadn't really thought about until the "me time" clip. i've always had a disdain for the bunker and how different its made the show, but it just hit me how much it's separated them. they used to literally WAKE UP TO EACH OTHER. THE FIRST AND LAST THING THEY SAW EVERYDAY WAS THEIR BROTHER A FOOT AWAY IN BED. THEY COULD HEAR EACH OTHER TOSS AND TURN AT NIGHT. boundaries didn't exist. bedroom doors didn't exist. they were physically and mentally closer.
YESSSSSS!!! Exactly. I don’t remember the exact convo, but I had talked to Blushenka (aka scruffymindslikepuzzles who is a cool cat) about this before, about how the Bunker is literally the worst thing to happen because it goes against 1) the entire road show idea and feel of the show and 2) it makes absolutely no sense in terms of the psychology of the boys! These guys grew up together, fought together, Dean practically raised Sam. How old are they? Dean’s pushing 40, Sam almost. They have been sleeping in one room motels their whole life. It’s essentially a fox hole-esque, brothers in arms relationship. People harp on about codependency, but the Bunker literally goes against all of that. If you remember, in 4.02, when Sam and Dean were at Bobby’s, Sam slept on the couch in the living room, while Dean slept on the floor on a couple blankets right next to the couch. Surely Bobby’s humongous house has at least one other bed? But these boys slept in the same room. And Bobby didn’t say anything either, as it appears. Because the way they lived, that used to be commonplace, routine, a way of life. That was how it had been since their mom died.
But no in the Bunker, they each have their own room where they sleep soundly every single night. Dean sips on tea while Sam calmly lounges in the MoL library and reads Wizard of Oz books. Give me a break.
EDIT—omg i accidentally published this! i hope you don’t mind :P
