When Windows update goes bad. This is the second time I have had Windows Update trash a computer of mine. Usually, it goes OK, but this is an example of when it doesn’t. It gets stuck in an endless loop of five dots running in circles. It doesn’t make any difference how long I let it sit there, trying my best to follow the advice from update “Don’t turn your computer off.” It would be nice if they gave an alternative, like “Give up on this.” The screen you see it not from Windows nor Windows update. It is from using NBRT from Norton after all the the Windows options that I could think of failed to give me an acceptable one. I tried using the update/upgrade disk (created using the media creation tool) for going from Windows 10 1809 to the May update Windows 10 1903. None of the options it provided me with under repair that were acceptable to me worked. The one I really wanted have work the one to fix the startup. If responded with, well that didn’t work, try something else. So I tried keep my apps and data and reinstall windows. Well, sorry about your luck silly person, that didn’t work either. So the option that would be next to try is trash all your data and applications and reinstall Windows 10.
If I am going to do that, it is probably time to upgrade drive C: and start over. Oh.. and the recovery USB that I have gives me basically the same option. It would be really nice if there was a nice way to actually restore my computer to a functioning system with a reasonable amount of effort. As geeky as I am, it makes me wonder how ordinary mortals manage to keep their Windows computers working. Geek Squad?
