The file name for this jpg I downloaded from alamy.com was apparently so long that Windows 11 would not rename or delete it--trying either just did nothing. Couldn’t load it in IrFanView, but I could in my old Photoshop 4. Was I stuck with it on my desktop?!? I suspect that using a ~1 name shortcut could have deleted it via cmd command prompt, but before I tried that I tried a right-click command I have that runs a .bat file converting GIFs to PNG via IrFanView, then deletes the GIF; this again failed to load the JPG, but did delete it. ; ) Whew!
The Unthinkable...
So, I ended up having no choice. Today, after that stupid update 1709 not only failed to install, but also caught my PC in a rebooting loop, I had to reinstall Windows. And reinstall all my software (not yet completed). And mourn the loss of a bunch of saved games...
Please let this be the last of this crap.
