I request you write literally anything with any au, topic, people, or characters you want as long as it makes you happy. -Angle
a/n: this was like the hardest decision of my life but I thought of the best idea with my favourite boy and trope. Prince Davey Jacobs, a Soulmate AU. Also I’m adding in a song inspiration because I’m lame and I love them.

Distance can determine so many things
From new love to wedding rings
From staying or saying goodbyes
Soulmates. The binding agent of all life. Every person has a soulmate, every single person. Thing is that there are so many types of soulmates and each person spent years trying to figure out how they’d meet their soulmate. Some people couldn’t see any colours, others could see them in their dreams, others had matching tattoos.
The warnings of want who will never ever try again
Soulmates were such a big part of life that everyone had their own opinion on them. You grew up hearing stories about the pros and cons of soulmates. From people who thought that soulmates were the only important part of lie, to people who had lost their soulmates and the devastation that came with that loss.
You never thought about the impact your soulmate might have on your life. Your parents were the best example of soulmates being life partners and two halves of a whole. They had met when they were younger and never parted ways since. Your mother always told you about the feeling of meeting her soulmate, she and your father couldn’t see colours until they met, she said it was the most beautiful experience she’d ever had. The colours crashing into her vision all at once and seeing the deep green of your father’s eyes. The stories always filled you with a giddy feeling and you wished that meeting your soulmate would be the same.
It was a warm summer day when you say it for the first time. In that moment, your whole world stopped and you froze in the middle of the markets, dropping your basket of food. Clean handwriting slowly etched itself in black ink onto your hand. As quickly as you could you picked up your things and ran home immediately.
“Mumma,” you yelled into the house as you crashed through the door, “mumma, look!”
“(y/n)?” She called as she walked into the room, “I thought you were at the market? What are you doing back so early?”
“Something happened. I think. I think it’s my soulmate.” The grin on your face never fading as you stretched your hand out towards her. There, in perfect black ink, sat four words.
“You didn’t write this?” Your mother brushed her finger over the ink in an attempt to smudge it but nothing happened. The words were written but not on your skin. Her eyebrows furrowed for a second and it caused dread to fill your stomach.
“What’s wrong?” Your voice shook with worry.
“Nothing, baby.” She smiled at you and held your hand tight, “I’m just shocked. This soulmate type is reserved for a very special type of person and I think you’ll be quite surprised when you meet them.”
That was all your mother told you about the soulmate mark. You sat for two hours after that, pen at the ready. Your hand shook in anticipation but you couldn’t bring yourself to write anything. Finally, you plucked up the courage to do something. Slowly you moved the pen over your skin and wrote something simple.
You waited for a while, simply staring at your hand until something happened. You began to fall asleep before you were shocked awake by that black ink appearing once more on your skin. A grin covered your face as you watched spell out words in a neat script.
‘I can’t believe you’re real’
Tears almost filled your eyes as you took in the sentence. They were just as worried as you were about soulmates, it was surprisingly comforting.
‘Real as real can be. I’m (y/n).’
But honey we’ll make it yes we will
Although we’re miles apart
As long as you wait for me
Please save a space for me
Inside your arms, I know it’s been long
Darling stay strong for me
You and Davey wrote to each other as often as you could. He was perfect in every single way. He made you smile when you were sad and he told you tales of lands far away. Each time you filled up both arms with writing, you’d scrub it off and start again with a clean slate. You couldn’t ask for a better soulmate, he was perfect.
The only issue was the distance. He told you that he lived in a kingdom far away from yours and it broke your heart to think that it may be years before you could see him. It was hard to think about but Davey comforted you and told you to wait for him despite the distance and to stay strong. He told you that his father was in a high position in the kingdom and that he was going to figure something out.
The first time he told you he loved you, you swore that your heart almost beat out of your chest. The feeling of euphoria and love washed over you until you could barely contain it. You wished you could shout it from the rooftops that you loved him and just once hold him in your arms.
Just as the edelweiss grows
So will our love also grow
That we’ll make it through
As long as you wait for me
Months after you first talked to Davey was when he told you the great news. It filled you with excitement and hope but you didn’t know what he was thinking. It was a crazy idea. You were conflicted, anxiety and love swirling around you as he wrote.
‘Father is hosting a gala ball for the four kingdoms. Everyone is invited. Especially you.’
‘Everyone? Davey this is crazy. There will be so many people.’
‘I know but it’s the best I could do.’
‘I’ll take any opportunity to be with you, Davey.’
‘I love you too, wait for me.’
Please save a space for me
Your mother and father loaded everything into your van and the three of you set off towards the adjacent kingdom our a week before the gala. Your parents explained there was family that lived in the kingdom and that you would be staying with them for the duration of the gala. You could barely contain your excitement as you wrote to Davey again.
‘I’m on my way, only a week and then I’ll find you.’
‘Darling I’m waiting for you.’
‘Like you said, only a week. I’ll be with you soon.’
A small tear slipped down your cheek. It was almost here, the moment you’d been waiting for for months. You were filled with fear suddenly. What if he didn’t like what he saw? What if he wasn’t who you thought he was? So many questions filled your head. It seemed that in no time you were there. The kingdom was beautiful, sure it was known for it’s remarkable agriculture but it was different to read about it than seeing it. It took your breath away.
Thankfully Davey knew what you were talking about. You were so in shock that words seemed to prohibit themselves from forming.
‘Save a space for me in your arms, Davey.’
‘There is space for no other.’
Just as the edelweiss grows
So will our love also grow
That we’ll make it through
As long as you wait for me
The week seemed to fly by as you met family and they prepared for the celebration. The kingdom was alive with people from near and far. The smell of food and flowers filled the streets as people danced and sung in them. You joined in on the festivities but made time to talk to Davey when you could. He too was busy with preparations and so you could only talk when either of you had a moment or it was night time.
“What is that on your hand, dear?” Your grandmother questioned the day before the gala. The question took you back for a moment before you realised that you’d not really shown anyone in your family whilst you had been there.
“Oh,” you sat with her and showed her the ink on your arms, “it’s my soulmate. His name is Davey and I’m going to meet him tomorrow at the gala.”
“Davey you say?” The woman had quite the smile on her face and you felt that there was something she wasn’t telling you.
“Yes,” you squinted at her, “what aren’t you telling me?”
“Oh nothing, dear,” she waved you off, “I know a Davey, he’s a fine lad.”
Your heart stuttered. Could that be your Davey? You really didn’t know. You did however know that nothing was going to stop you from seeing Davey the next night. Not a damn thing could stop you. You’d waited far too long for this moment and you loved that boy with your whole heart.
That we’ll make it through
As long as you wait, wait for me
Your hands shook as you tied the final lace on your gown for the gala. You had gotten wind the previous evening that the ball was a masked one, something that made you curse the universe. Seriously? A masquerade ball?
‘This has got to be a joke, Davey. A masquerade? Not that I know what your face looks like anyway.’
‘My dad thinks he’s funny. I tried to convince him not too.’
‘It’s okay, love. you’ll just have to work extra hard to find me.’
‘Oh I intend on it, Cinderella.’
‘No way am I leaving these shoes on any palace steps. Not sure the prince would like that.’
‘You never know. He might.’
Your hands shook as you were driven up to the front steps of the palace. You pulled out the pen you stowed away and wrote a teasing sentence on the back of your clean hand.
You carefully lifted your dress as you made your way up the palace steps and toward the ball. The hall was filled with masked people and it suddenly filled you with dread. How were you going to find Davey amongst all these people? You snapped out of your worry as someone introduced the royal family to the room. You clapped with the other attendees as the King and Queen made their way to the platform at the end of the hall. They were followed by two boys, you assumed them to be the prince’s, one quite tall and the other far younger. They all had their faces covered in intricate masks and wore the finest clothes you’d ever seen.
The oldest prince seemed to be scanning the room for something but you brushed it off as the King began to speak.
“Welcome to our kingdom!” His voice was exactly what you expected from the king, “thank you all for joining in on our festivities. Have a wonderful evening!”
His speech was succinct which you quite admired but immediately worry washed over you as people began to dance. You paused a moment to watch the royal family. The King and Queen took to the floor immediately and danced in the centre of the floor. The youngest prince ran off towards a small group of older boys, calling to his brother as he went. The older boy scanned the room once more before his shoulders dropped and he followed his brother.
The gala seemed to drag on forever and there was still no sign of Davey. Your heart started to ache at the idea of not finding him. You had been asked to dance by a boy called Jack for a while, he was a pleasant boy who had a fascination and passion for art. He gushed at you about artists and his want to be world renown one day. You laughed and told him that you would buy a painting off of him if he made one for you.
The two of you danced for quite a while before he spotted the writing on your hand. He furrowed his brows for a moment and then his breath caught in his throat. You looked at him questioning as he pulled you off the dance floor, mumbling something to you before disappearing into the sea of people.
With a sigh you shook your head and moved towards an open door that lead into the gardens. You slowly walked through the hedges and beautiful flower bushes. Small fairy lights lined the trees and made the whole place look magical, it took your breath away. A small bench sat in the middle of a gravel area just opposite a large water fountain. The light reflecting through the droplets creating beautiful rainbow displays.
You sat with your head in your hands desperately attempting to stop the tears from flowing down your cheeks. You untied your mask and placed it next you, gently wiping the tears from your eyes. You looked down at your hand to see no new messages from Davey on you. You wanted nothing than to see his swirling writing scrawled across your skin in that moment.
The crunching of gravel made you freeze for a moment and you refused to move, you stared straight at your hands and attempted to make yourself invisible. You hoped that whoever it was would leave you alone to wallow in your own sadness. Slowly words began to swirl over your skin and you couldn’t seem to tear your eyes from the black ink.
Your head snapped up to see a man standing across the open garden, a pen in his hand. You made eye contact and immediately the world slipped away. It felt as though nothing else existed in that moment. It was just you and Davey. You knew it was him. Slowly he began to walk towards you and your world twisted around his beautiful eyes.
When he reached you, he slipped off his mask, choosing to simply drop it on the ground. Tears sprung in your eyes as you took in his beautiful features. His cheekbones framed his face beautifully and his dark eyes made your heart race.
“Hi,” the smile that grew on your face lit up his entire world. You jumped at him and threw your arms around his neck. He gripped your waist and you stood there in the garden holding each other tightly, afraid that this was all a dream and that you’d lose each other again. You pulled away slightly to see his face. He smiled wide at your amazed expression.
“You’re more beautiful than I could ever have imagined,” he whispered causing a red blush to cover your cheeks. You looked down at the ground for a moment before looking back into his eyes.
“I can’t believe I found you,” a few tears trickling down your cheeks. He brushed them away with his thumb and gently caressed your jaw, “I didn’t think you wanted to see me.”
“No, no, no,” Davey panicked slightly, “I wanted to find you, I was looking everywhere. I almost gave up when Jack said he’d found you.”
“Jack?” You almost laughed out loud, “painter boy? We danced for near to an hour then he ditched me to go off somewhere. I guess it was to find you.”
“That sounds like something he’d do, yeah.” He laughed. It was the most beautiful sound in the world. You wanted to hear it every single day for the rest of your life. His face became serious and he looked at like you as though you were the only person in the world. Your heart swelled with love, a feeling that only he could give you.
He slowly leaned down to capture your lips with his own and you felt like you were on cloud nine. He pulled you flush against him and you tangled your fingers in his dark hair. He groaned into your mouth as you tugged lightly on his hair. After a while you pulled away and rested your foreheads together.
“So,” you spoke slightly out of breath, “when were you going to tell me you were an actual Prince?”
