watching a video essay on orientalism in music and it's so funny that the author is far, far too kind in the introduction in terms of coddling the viewer and saying that orientalist music is okay to listen to but then is very direct when giving examples and clearly does not have patience with the overt racism displayed as the video progresses

I LOVE rarepairs in every fandom, but with vsmp I’ve barely had the free time to think about the popular pairings, so I just haven’t been able to explore them. I’m enjoying the rarepair tourney now because all of the vote posts have manifestos/explantions for the ships!!
I’m going through and writing out thoughts on each ship (I’ve got a big centralized google doc with tabs for each fandom and dropdown headings for characters and ships to organize all my thoughts and analysis) before I actually vote on them. So far I’ve only gotten through 6 ships lol but im having fun thinking about them all

thinking abt when i was first politically conscious or whatever. obviously went through the 2014-2016 tumblr sjw media representation (argued w parents about the legalisation of marriage equality over dinner table) phase and my (white, male) lit teacher was very into trauma and postcolonial fiction (shoutout arundhati roy and tayeb salih). and then for my 4000 word high school essay i picked history and wrote about the united fruit company and the cia in guatemala and was like damn. us economic policy/imperialism is actually so fucked up!!! anyway i should find that essay again and see how it holds up
