… Well, at least Dark Pit knew what it said now.
“ … I couldn’t read it. ”
“ I don’t know if you knew this, but I don’t know how to read yet. ”
He noted what she said, but didn’t make much of an attempt to leave her alone… though he didn’t try to close the distance she set between them at the moment. He simply lifted his hand, showing that there was a lot of fabric wrapped around it. He calmly pulled it off of his hand, unwrap by unwrap, as he said:
“ Besides, it’s easier for me to give you this face-to-face. ”
With it fully unraveled, it was revealed to be a black scarf… similar to the one he himself wore.
“ … Here. Nothing special, but… it seemed fitting. Besides, it… it… well, here. ”
… ‘It matches mine’, he’d considered saying… but no way he’d say something sappy like that, Christmas or not.
Laine’s stony expression didn’t showcase her genuine surprise. He couldn’t read? Well, that made two of them. Sort of.
She watched in silence as he unwrapped that fabric from his hand. A black scarf... a simple black scarf. One that looked very similar to his own scarf At least he didn’t come any closer.
But he wasn’t leaving her alone, and Laine wasn’t sure how much longer she could contain her anger around him. And that scared her.
... Goddammit, did he have to go ahead and do that? She didn’t want to accept anything right now. She didn’t want to be around him.
... But he got that for her.
Laine clenched her teeth and forcibly tore her gaze away from him. “Jus’ leave it at th’ camp. I’ll get to it later. I jus’... listen, I want to be alone. I don’t need anyone right now, so jus’... jus’ go, alright?!”
She had fully turned her back to him at this point, doing her best to contain herself.
Don’t snap at him, goddammit, don’t snap...!
