Typing dialogue doesn’t always work for me, so sometimes I scribble it instead.
None of this is necessarily canon, just thoughts with Peter Wink that I didn’t want to let get away.
Trying to make art once a day! Here’s some Winks.
I haven’t thought much about Bali Wink, but as I was sketching Hark Wink I think I decided she’s a little bit of a fanatic and as such, doesn’t care for his heretic way of doing things.
Before Jacky went to the Cat's Way, she spent days following Peter Wink.
He would lead her around the city or out into the wilderness behind Gale's house. He would take her to places no one else remembered. There were close calls, and several occasions when she came home injured and dodgy, but she was nevertheless eager to go, because she could keep up, and because she knew she was getting better.
The game would end when Peter inevitably crossed an obstacle that she couldn't. There would always be a dead end. Peter would go his way, and she would resign to going home, because she couldn't follow.
Until one day it became clear that was no dead end. He would allow her to follow him as far as she dared.
THAT DAY, she got scared and went home.
LETS TALK ABOUT HARK WINK.
Hark Wink is a revolutionist. That's not unheard of for a Wink, but Hark is probably the first of his kind in recent memory. Winks don't question their traditions. It's just not something they do. Hark Wink does, and has a growing following around the time Jacky comes to the Cats Way.
I can't say what he's challenging yet because I'm not sure I know! I need more time to hash those details out. He absolutely believes in what he's doing, and he probably isn't wrong to.
When I doodled his design I forgot that the size of a Wink's pupil indicates how often they open doors to the Cats Way. Hark Wink's pupils are huuuuuge. The only other Wink with pupils that large to date are Peri Wink's. Peri Wink ferries cat spirits back and forth on a regular basis. Looks like he's been busy!
Sparks and Winks
Sparks all serve the same purpose (for now), but different Winks have different style and sometimes the shape or 'personality' of a spark makes the creator identifiable.
Peter Wink's sparks will always be smooth, round, and calm.
Hood Wink is at the opposite end of the spectrum. His sparks are like lightning trapped in a bottle and dart wildly around.
Petty's are too hot to touch.
Peri's are light and airy.
Hark Wink's emit a sound like a warbling trumpet when bothered.
So on and so forth.
