KPOP ALS ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE #9 - WINNER’S KANG SEUNG YOON
Following the flood of K-POP idols doing the ALS ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE, Kang Seung Yoon has brought the challenge to the YG Family! The WINNER leader completed the challenge and has nominated EPIK HIGH's Tablo, Park Bo Ram and Lee Sung Kyoung!
Thoughts about Winner's debut
Many have already spoken up about this but, being a part of the Inner Circle, I feel like I might as well put in my own two cents: To get the obvious out of the way, I'm sure that the majority of us who were looking forward to Winner's debut were expecting something different compared to what YG gave us. Unlike many others though, I actually thought they'd have a song similar to Big Bang's "Blue" or "Bad Boy," which I thought were epic in their own right and would be what I thought was a suitable style for them. When I first listened to "Empty" and "Color Ring," I was honestly a bit disappointed at first because they weren't the "epic" type of songs I had expected. Since I love Winner though, I couldn't help but be happy with their debut after waiting for years (lol) and gave the songs a chance to grow on me. And don't get me wrong, it's not that I didn't like them, it's just that they didn't WOW me the first time. However, only in about an hour, I found myself already addicted to "Empty" ("Color Ring" grew on me eventually though not as strongly) and after listening to their whole album, I had it ready to play everyday on repeat. True story. This might not be the case for everybody, but my point is, while these songs may not be "epic", there's a certain charm to them that kept on drawing me back. You know a song is good when you find something different to admire every time you listen to it. I actually found myself regretting the small bit of disappointment I had felt earlier because I realized Yg made the right decision debuting Winner the way he did. He showcased a unique quality about them that doesn't just distinguish them from Big Bang, but all the boy bands out there in the K-pop world right now. We all know that they can do the "swag" image, and I have no doubt that Yg will let them have that moment in the future (I'm looking forward to it too) but as of now I'm happy and satisfied with their mature, classy vibe and I hope we can all support them regardless of what we were expecting. If anything, let's all at least agree to disagree and just love Winner. (:
P.S. I actually had in mind a short comment that was meant for their "Empty" MV on Youtube in response to all the folk who kept saying they were "disappointed" but, as you can see, it ended up turning into a decently sized paragraph LOL
Winner - Inkigayo
Random on Winner's 1st Debut on a music show (Inkigayo) (17/8/2014)
If August 15th is Winner's 1st debut on stage in YG FamCon, today will be another momentous date for both Winner and Inner-Circle aka Winner's fans. Why? Because we have waited for their debut since last October - after many delays, trollings and even messy stuffs from YG. They now will can proudly introduce themselves as a debuted rookie group "We're Winner" if they appear on any TV shows, programs instead of being introduced as pre-debut like previously.
Well, I think today has brought a variety of emotional scales towards Inner Circle. Let's start with the beginning period prior to Inkigayo. I guess many fangirls would be both nervous and excited at the same time. As the stream links may run well at the first place but may stop at anytime, causing lags, prevent them from watching Winner. Haha, it looks like you are sitting on a roller-coaster, going through ups and downs. In addition, we do not know the order of the show, then Winner might appear anytime in the show =D The emotions seemed to burst into extreme delight when Winner joined a short interview with MCs. However, they haven't performed after that - which reminded me of watching a football game. You think once a hero appears, the goal will be reached in a short time easily, but there is nothing happening later. Thanks to this chance of streaming, I have watched some idol groups while waiting for Winner's performance. Ah, it's interesting to see other fangirls' questioning, complaining, expressing their emotions while I was trending on Twitter as well :P
When Winner finally performed on the stage, there was another wave of emotions in my heart. I felt to some extent it was surreal as I have told to myself, Really, yes, really they are Winner, they have officially debuted on TV. One of the stunning impressions is their stage, especially in Color Ring performance. All of them are in suits in the context of classy atmosphere. In which, Winner stood in the format of W letter, gradually moving together as a delicate group. I was really adsorbed in the breathtaking scene. Moreover, from W letter - representing they are Winner, to their walking on the catwalk stage - standing for their official steps towards the world as a newly debuted young professionals, along with fans on both sides - which always support them, made me jaw-dropping.
For the performance of Empty, I only felt a little bit pity that there was no dancing arranged by Hoon and they stood on a stair - which may distract cameramen in filming them in a whole sophisticated frame. Anyway, they did a great job in expressing their stage presence, their vocal & rapping, conveying emotions into their songs, capturing all attention. Noticeably, Seung Yoon looked so comfortable and so did other W boys. I suppose Yoonie would carry a happy feeling that they now can be on the same stage as a group instead of him being solo last year.
Frankly speaking, once their performances ended, I was blank to exhibit any saying - just thought, oh, did it end, rite? Then, I gained my soul again after watching their clips - everything happened so fast that I felt as if it was just a dream. Luckily, it is reality - it is still a long path ahead for Winner and their fans.
By the way, Winner have had a splendid stage as a rookie group.
