when i say "happy winter solstice" i do not mean corporate ribbons and bows or heteronormative hallmark movies. i mean may the cutting cold clear the way for your future. i mean you are precious right down to your roots and they deserve protection from the frost. i know autumn blazed her brilliant bloodsong; i know the way it rained. how crystalline, the gray. but don't worry — there's wine mulling on the stove, there's a record playing softly. when i say "happy winter solstice", i mean let the darkness turn your vision inward. may the year's longest night douse you in dreams.

I'm such a hypocrite. Yesterday I watched Black Phone 2 and rolled my eyes at them kids running around in pjs/whatever during a snow storm and casually swimming under ice. The usual movie bullshit.
