As we wait to find out whether today’s snow storm will be a blizzard or a bust, we’re getting into the seasonal spirit with this 1947 photographic negative of a Central Railroad of New Jersey locomotive making short work of snowfall alongside Clinton Avenue in Plainfield, New Jersey.

This item is part of Hagley Library’s Herbert Harwood Jr. Railroad and Transportation Collection of photographic negatives, which comprises nearly 150,000 images covering all of the twentieth century. The collection includes Harwood’s own work as a railroad photographer as well as the work of others. Among the collection are photographs from many notable photographers active in the 1930s and ‘40s and well as the work of his father-in-law, George M. Beischer, who served as the chief mechanical officer for several railroads, including the fledgling Amtrak in the 1970s.

There’s about eighteen more days left of Fall, but you wouldn’t know it to walk outside today. We’re joining this lady and her fabulous hat in giving today’s #WinterWednesday some serious side-eye.

This photograph was taken around the year 1890 by American illustrator Frank E. Schoonover (1877-1972). It appears to have been taken outside of the People's Furnishing Company at the corner of 2nd and Hamilton Streets in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Just gave fencing in snow a try to see how the footing was - fine with the current type of snow, but because the sun was out, utterly blinding, and my vision is now all purple. I was more fancying trying it while it was actually falling... Probably can in another ten minutes or half an hour.

And I just tried to say that as a new post on Facebook, but FB's scripting is borked again- when I try to make new post it goes to a greyed-over screen with a little clos-window "x" and no fucking window to write in cos only the close button shows. Fucking piece of shit.

It’s still winter here in New York City, but I’m already planning ahead for April showers thanks to these cosmic umbrellas from the London’s Science Museum. 

All three stellar designs come in compact or full size. I’ll walk anywhere in the rain with the Universe to keep me dry!

I spotted these fabulous Moon Boots on NASA Goddard’s Instagram account the other day. (In case you didn’t already know, NASA kills it on social media, you should follow them on all channels.) Anyway, the genius behind the Goddard account reposted this pic by parisrouz who snagged these boots from Zappos. 

Taking a look at Zappo’s website, I found an awesome selection of sci-fi versions of Tecnica’s Moon Boot design:

In case you didn’t know, Tecnica launched their moon boot design in 1969 after Apollo 11 landed on the moon:

In 1969 the first major international success with the launch of Moon Boot, an after-ski boot that takes inspiration from the boots worn by the Apollo astronauts who first set foot on the Moon.

I’m officially going to have this song stuck in my head the rest of the day.

Startorialists, I HAVE FAILED YOU! 

These amazing space jackets, gloves, and boots were available from North Face before the New Year and now they have disappeared. I DIE.

My hope is that since North Face dipped a toe into astro fashion once, maybe they will do it again? Also, maybe we should all bombarded them with requests to bring this design back?
