Rec: A straight-A+ piece of work. The writing in this is spectacular: funny, informed, smart, witty. The transfer of the characters is perfect: it’s not just Sherlock and John plopped into the Harry Potter universe, they have been made completely native to the setting without losing a single drop of what makes them uniquely them. Magic is likewise made proper use of, not as window dressing (although there’s plenty of eye candy too) but as an integral, natural part of the universe and the plot, with many casual mentions of events, items, and places from the Harry Potter books that cement this firmly in place. The case itself is superbly paced and plotted, with plenty of opportunities for Sherlock and John to show off their stuff. The two of them are brilliant together, although I do feel it only fair to say that despite the / in the relationship line, this really came across as gen to me with a very slight leaning toward pre-slash. Still, the warmth and core of their friendship is very much on display, and should satisfy both shippers and casuals alike.
