Never Really Asleep

Stacy didn’t know how long she stayed in this position at the bottom of her bath. Not controlling her body just as if she was controlled by somebody else, she slowly sat up, turned off the shower and stepped out of the bath. She walked out of the bathroom and she carefully went out of her dorm and walked in the barely lit hallway, drips leaving a trail behind her. She opened the door leading to the fire exit stairs and started going up on the tiny spiral staircase. At the last step, she took the small icy ladder and climbed until she reached the roof. It was exactly like in her last nightamre. How could she have dreamt about this exact place she’d never been to? Summer nights were still freezing in Poland and the cold air burned her lungs as she tried to take deep a breath. Her wet clothes didn’t help at all. She reached the limit of the roof, her toes dangling off the edge. She watched drops falling off her wet hair to the cement stairs below, and Stacy just stood there, fearless, shivering without noticing it. Sounds of foot steps echoed behind her but she couldn’t hear them. It was as if none of her senses were working.
