Love your thoughts on Coën and they made me think: Do you think Coën tried to find Erland after the fall of Kaer Seren?

Could Erland have tried to evade his own student on propose, in the Journal I kind of got the impression that he didn't feel capable of carrying on, so I think he would have tried to avoid his own brothers.

Kind of makes me wonder what a reunion between these two would be like...

I think Coën probably did? He doesn't strike me as the kind not to look for survivors.

But, like you said, Erland was determined to stay hidden. The death of his school at the hands of the mages was probably damaging beyond imagination to Erland's psyche. He's had set backs before (he's a witcher, after all), but he built himself up on the foundations of knightly virtue, believing it was the right way and everyone would see eventually. But no, they buried his school, his trainees, his legacy, beneath a mountain. It would have broken him. Hence, the journals.

I don't think Erland would be able to look Coën in the eye at first. Feeling like he lied to him about what it meant to be who they were and do the job they do; he would think that he gave Coën false hope. And then there would be the guilt of having 'abandoned' him to hide. It would be... messy.
