I’m up in #nabesna #alaska to celebrate the extraordinary life my grandma, Lorene Ellis, lived. She hunted and trapped animals to survive and keep her family nourished during harsh winters... all with her hair done and lipstick on point. Any visitor down the 40-mile rough-and-tumble dirt road was offered food, shelter and friendly conversation. Pie and tea, a seat by the wood stove. Her love is my family’s bedrock. Her acceptance of her children for who they were never wavered. She was forever an optimist, ‘it’ll get better soon;’ and she understood that that attitude, and hard work, was what it took to survive and thrive. Over 80 people made their way down the road to remember her. Grandma made the Wrangell Mountains her home, and ours. 💙💙 #devilsmountainlodge #wrangellmountains #winterslay #grandma (at Nabesna, Alaska)
