Winterween TBR
Winterween 2021 TBR Winterween is here! This is a one-week reading challenge and I’m so excited. It’ll help distract me from the start of my Student Teaching experience. It would be very ambitious to read five books, even if there’s a prompt for a shorter book, so I’ll be doubling up. Three books might still be a lot, but I plan to do split reading since one of the prompts is specifically at…

🌟 🌟 BOOK REVIEW🌟 🌟 💫 Thank you Ballatine Books, an imprint of Random House Publishers, Netgalley, and Nita Prose for an advanced copy of The Maid in return for my honest feedback. The Maid is a “delightful” and quirky take on how we perceive an individual and situations and how versions of truth are different depending on life experiences and viewpoints. “We are all the same in different ways” Molly (who prides herself being called Molly the Maid) encounters the dead body of Charles Black, a long-time repeat guest, in The Regency Grand suite under mysterious circumstances. His second wife, Giselle, seemingly Molly’s only friend, turns out to be the prime suspect but how Molly gets embroiled in the whole scenario and whether the special Molly comes out of being implicated as a prime culprit or not forms the crux of the story. The story is pretty straightforward however it’s the fascinating take on the story from the POV of a maid, someone whose role is to be plain invisible and entirely overlooked amongst the string of incoming and outgoing guests, is what helps the story stand out. “Discretion is our motto. Invisible customer service is our goal” “I understand dirt better than most” It’s too early to count the book amongst the top thrillers of the year but I can safely say that Molly is possibly one character that I will remember for a long long time to come. Some of the wise quotes from her “Gran”, the way memories bubble up during her cleaning sessions, the two standout court sequences, and her interactions with Detective Stark add a socially relevant angle as well. The introduction of the Preston’s adds a boost to the story as well. Though the gran and Preston relationship story could have been avoided, the final 5% leaves you rooting for Molly all the way. “When a guest asks for something above and beyond, consider it a challenge...Rise to meet it” Molly and the story surely rise above and beyond to meet the challenge. #bookreview #winterween #netgalley #themaid #bookrecommendations #thrillerreaders #thriller #ballantinebooks #randomhouse #nitaprose #bookstagram #booknerd #bookphotography https://www.instagram.com/p/CYRnpvAPdlX/?utm_medium=tumblr
