TV Repair Man by Richard Walker Via Flickr: Often seen around, the TV Repair man visiting homes in the 1950's and 1960's.TV's then not so reliable as they are today. The early cathode ray Tube TV images were made up of only 405 or 425 lines with only one station available to view, the BBC, with a second channel ITV coming on line in 1955. The very first TV broadcasts were made by the BBC in 1936 using the Baird Mechanical Sytem. The 405/425-line electronic Marconi system demonstrated superior clarity, leading the BBC to drop the mechanical Baird setup by 1937 in favor of electronic television development. Standard analog definitions quickly shifted across decades from early low-count experimental lines up to the widespread 405/425 line system in the UK, and eventually 625-line terrestrial PAL System introduced in 1965. Nowadays most TV's are flat-screen with Ultra High Definition images and controlled by sophisticated software Archive Image.
