Six Sentence Saturday

Caitlyn cracks her gun to spit its empty shells, victory report half-written in her head, when she spies it in the distance. A faint anomaly in the grim tableau. Easy to overlook — and it seems as though everyone else already has.

Her squad is already on the move, but Caitlyn hangs back. Draws closer. Pinned to the wooden frame by an officer’s tarnished lapel badge is what might be the underside of a ruined bar coaster, bearing words scrawled in stark red:
