Rules: You will be given a word. Then you share an excerpt from your wip(s) that starts with each letter of your word. @a-gay-bloodmage gave out the word WHALE. Let's take a break from making Christmas treats to see what's hiding in my WIPs right now.
Gentle, please feel free to save these for after Christmas kinda tags for @themontess, @the-font-bandit, @woundedsoul12, @trillian-n7, and @winebearcat
With her concentration broken, Halsin took advantage and shifted back into his bear skin, hoping the vile woman was done with him for now. There were thoughts of Laidra, warm in his heart now, to help him push through the Matron’s torment. He would hold onto those as tightly as he could until she found a way to free them both.
Another loud explosion shook the Fourth House, this one closer, raining debris from the ceiling. The Matron muttered a curse in Undercommon and conjured a shield of faith as she strode out of the room to see what was the cause of all the commotion.
H- The Last Week At Vigil's Keep WIP
“Hey, I get that what Commander Tabris did wasn’t great. She fucked up. She’s still a person, though. Even the Hero of Ferelden is allowed to make mistakes,” Sigrun said, trying to offer him some semblance of sympathy.
Anders didn’t want it. Nor did he need any reminders about the Commander’s humanity. Hadn’t he learned the hard way that putting her on some heroic pedestal was a recipe for disaster? He let out a grunt of discontent, pulling his arm away from Sigrun’s grasp.
“Anders, you can’t let this resentment eat you up inside,” she said. “You have to learn to live with it.”
“Or I could just fuck off and die,” he suggested bitterly.
“I guess you could, but who would that serve? Certainly not you.” Sigrun turned back to her dinner, done with his melancholy and refusal to be swayed by her cheery attitude.
A- Unnamed Blood Mage Amell WIP
“Are you an idiot, warden?” Loghain asked, trying to tug on his robe sleeve to pull him back toward their group.
“Are you asking me this now? Honestly?” Daylen gritted his teeth, not prepared for the lecture from the old bastard right now.
“Raining fire on our allies,” the Teryn muttered, a dagger jutting into the spine of a genlock that Daylen used the ebbing lifeforce to regain his own. “Flying into the middle of said fire.”
“Did you not see the ogre that practically threw me here? I did not pluck wings from the fade—”
“You may as well have! If you want to make it through this, you need to keep your damned head on your shoulders, warden!”
Daylen’s mana surged upward in force and pushed on the barrier that surrounded them, dispelling it so that he could finally move forward deeper into the fray, leaving Loghain to his annoyances. Before he could rush off, however, Loghain gripped his shoulder, pulling him back from sprinting away.
L- A Higher Calling (Next Warden Zukal Tabris fic will include Garrett/Anders content!)
“Lovely to meet you, Ser,” Zukal said, a nervous edge to her voice.
“Please call me Hawke,” he replied, “Anders, love, are you really making more tonic? The poor thing needs food, not more nasty tea.”
Her brows shot up at the term of endearment, eyes moving quickly to Anders and then away. Every part of this felt cosmically ridiculous.
“Don’t trouble yourself,” she said, trying to bring her legs beneath herself to stand. Placing her weight on her right arm, she collapsed under her own weight, groaning with pain.
“That’s not good,” Garrett said.
Anders hurried over to look at her arm, picking it up where it hung limply from her shoulder. He pulsed a cleansing aura into her, trying to quell the pain, but it was clear her arm hung limp due to not being connected to its socket.
“Commander, I need you to try and relax. I need to push your arm back into place,” Anders said calmly.
He didn’t wait for her to protest further and quickly twisted and shoved the joint back into place with a sickening crack.
E- Currently Unused Scene for A Higher Calling (may not make the final draft)
Entering to sounds of an argument had not been what she was prepared for.
“You’re not seriously thinking about going?” Anders was shouting. He brandished a folded paper at Garrett throwing it at his chest roughly.
“It’s my fault that would be blighter is free, Anders! Of course I’m going.” Garrett stalked across the room like a lion in a cage. The man was a completely different creature when provoked, and for a moment, she felt the instinctive urge to place herself in front of Anders to shield him from Hawke's rage.
“It was dead! We watched it die! This is not your problem to fix!” Anders looked as if his world were falling apart, a tinge of blue starting to crackle across his skin. Was Justice similarly distraught? What had she walked into?
“You’re lying, I know it,” Hawke answered, “Justice knows it! That’s why he’s bursting at the seams to get you to calm down.”
“Okay, that’s enough!” she shouted, finally stepping between the two of them. She stared them down, her head swiveling from one to the other. Over the years, she’d put down her fair share of fights as Warden Commander, but never one quite like this. Anders was panting heavily, his skin still crackling, spirit energy glowing in the dim light of the cavern.
