Isolation and physical distancing is tough. It screws with your mind, it tests relationships and it means sacrifice. It also saves lives. And resources. And enables the health care system to function. It is crucial! But it is very, very difficult. . . I am deeply sorry for the ones, whose mental health is in uproar, the ones, who could not live through this pandemic safely and are now facing their own battles for the sake of their minds. I am sorry for those, whose head has gone under, whose coping mechanisms where no longer applicable, or no longer enough. I am sorry for those who are part of the "elderly, disabled or chronically ill people", these are worrying times. It's hard to hear these groups discussed, thinking how those talking about them rarely belong in the category themselves. My grandmother is really scared, which angers me. I don't want her to be afraid like this. I want her to believe in our human solidarity. I want her to know, how people are selflessly or grudgingly sacrificing their comfortable routines for people like her. . . I want to be mindful of the awakening consciousness of our deep human connection this has triggered. I want to appreciate that more people acknowledge the power of biology and nature. Maybe all of this will become a powerful lesson for all of us. Life will eventually feel normal again! But it's hard. It really is. And it's okay to feel that. Making progress... I have not sewn with a sewing machine for almost 10 years. It was good that I was able to pick up some twill tape and other cotton fabric leftovers from my eldest daughter. I had the great pleasure of participating in Germany's biggest Hackathon (2020) and composing the soundtrack&sound of a small but ambitious game project. Within 48 hours we created a small simulation game about the policies that are introduced to fight the spread of the Covid-19 virus t help people better understand how serious our current situation is and how even little things can have a huge impact in these times. (Currently in German)It was a truly inspiring weekend and I hope that everyone out there stays healthy, responsible and doesn't give up and is instead inspired to take steps to make these challenging times more bearable.
