This really helped me understand this passage. I had no idea what it meant before.
“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye." (Matthew 7:1-5)
"Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment." (John 7:24)
"For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge? God judges those outside. “Purge the evil person from among you.” (1 Corinthians 5:12)
"Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ." (Galatians 6:1-2)
"[Jesus is saying] don't be the kind of person who ignores sin, but also don't be the kind of person who crushed people under it."
"That's the difference between being a hypocrite who just wants to win an argument and a Christian who wants to carry a burden."
Jesus intentionally walked the path to the cross for you and me. The Last Supper is the inauguration of a covenant that redeems God’s people. It started in the upper room, but didn’t end there. It ended at the cross when Jesus said it is finished. Nothing left to finish. Nothing left to earn.
Why so many Christians misread Paul
In this still contemptuous time, are we repaying evil with evil? Father, please bless our hearts and our words to honor you, love our enemies, and to forgive and not treat others as we have been and will be treated.
