the most overlooked thing in danganronpa was how young they were.
let me explain, this isn't talking about their physical age, but more so mentally. when you see danganronpa characters, the thought of them being 16, let alone at their youngest 15 years old, is almost unfathomable, and is part of the horror of danganronpa. the other side of this is also the unseen body horror.
imagine this: it's your first day of highschool, and when you walk into that school, you wake up. in a body that feels different. you've grown. something's changed. you're different. are you even yourself? this is more of an unseen aspect that I've never seen anyone talk about. 2 years the characters of drthh were trapped in the school, and for kids actively going through puberty they would have had physical changes, mental changes, shifts in how they believed and who they were, and to wake up physically in that body, the body of who you would be, a foreign object, is horrifying.
next, their age. i don't really need to say anything. people mature SO MUCH throughout their teenage years up to their late 20's, so think about it. would you in high school be any different from you now? to be so young, from the ages of 14-16, these kids still have parents who pack them lunches, kids who still laze around in their beds, kids who say stupid shit with their friends, THEY WERE ALL JUST KIDS.
and we don't talk about that enough.
dangan yaps part two i'm really dead.
