Wise things my sister has told me
1. You can respect someone, you can love them and care about them but you don't have to think of them as above you. You don't have to put them on a pedestal.
2. There's a difference between having a philosophical conversation with someone and taking about hard stuff. You can walk into Starbucks right now and you'll find at least one person you can sit for an hour with and talk about life and death and everything in between. But that doesn't mean you have some sort of connection with them and that they will be there for you when you need them. That takes a certain level of attachment and patience. 'Deep conversations' are different from 'real conversations'
3. People think it's tough love but sometimes all it really is is saying what's on your mind without having any consideration for how it's going to make the other person feel. Not a lot of love behind that.
