It would last a lot longer if planned obsolescence (which I keep calling obsolence) and constant new models and things weren't things, and they were habitually repaired and recycled. but yeah, it wouldn't last forever if we stay stuck on earth forever and also it's not something i like to think about so i try not to
Yeah same, it’s actually not the greatest thing to think about lol every time I read something about how much we rely on weird obscure minerals and shit for our technology, the more I want to go full primitivist and live in the woods. I mean, I don’t think technology is bad or anything (it’s great!) but there’s such a disconnect right now between what goes into our technology/how it’s actually made and what your average consumer knows. Not just with the actual components but also uhhhh awful conditions for workers producing our tech. On the one hand, it’s amazing that we can have access to these technologies and can continue to discover what computers/robotics/whatever are really capable of, but on the other hand, your average person is so alienated from the origins of these things that they’re able to be incredibly complacent...
