Yeah same, it’s actually not the greatest thing to think about lol every time I read something about how much we rely on weird obscure minerals and shit for our technology, the more I want to go full primitivist and live in the woods. I mean, I don’t think technology is bad or anything (it’s great!) but there’s such a disconnect right now between what goes into our technology/how it’s actually made and what your average consumer knows. Not just with the actual components but also uhhhh awful conditions for workers producing our tech. On the one hand, it’s amazing that we can have access to these technologies and can continue to discover what computers/robotics/whatever are really capable of, but on the other hand, your average person is so alienated from the origins of these things that they’re able to be incredibly complacent...

I figured that going to bed is when you stop being distracted by everything else and turn your attention more internally

I’m not actually talking about the point where I’m actually in bed. I’m talking about the several hours of “someone with a reasonable sleep schedule and executive functioning would have gotten into bed by now, but here I am still awake even though I should try to sleep.” time before hand. Not even necessarily times when my brain has nothing better to do, but even in the middle of games or watching youtube or wikipedia or tumblr or anything. I don’t actually tend to have a hard time with my brain when I let it wander, that isn’t particularly emotional in comparison to just being tired.

I’m managing my activities of daily living ok most of the time, but I’m starting to feel the walls of my bedroom closing in on me (figuratively). 

Ideally these are things outside of the house (I live in Long Beach, California) but things in the house are good too.

I LIVE FOR CHANNELED BOOKS. Conversations with God and A Course in Miracles were both central to my development. Even though I’m not a proponent of the systems suggested in them, I definitely recommend to anyone starting spirit work and making up their own mind about religion, it’s purpose and functions, and spirituality.

I found it at www.lawofone.info and am definitely going to give it a read. Even though it’s not part of my cosmology, I’ve always been fascinated by UFOlogy.

That sounds like really shitty behaviour to me. Social rules aren't set in stone and vary by location and culture a LOT, but that doesn't give people the right to be hypocritical like that. A decent person would listen to you when you have an issue, regardless of whether you bring it up immediately or a few weeks later.

Exactly. Li/ly-pe/et has made a lot of shitty statements about autism recently and that’s what this post grew out of. She said “you teach an autistic person social rules the same way you teach a regular person math.”

Thing is the rules of math are rigid and don’t change. Social rules will be changed on you all the time. They will be changed on you to personally benefit an individual. Allistic people will not be expected to abide by these rules, at least never to the degree autistic people are. We are really held to a higher standard despite being the disabled ones.

You’re right that genuine connection is ideal…but some people feel more comfortable approaching social situations if they have scripts to go off of.

:) Maybe my gut feeling on this one was wrong. It was just a thought. But I think things like social guidelines are helpful not because they are absolutes, but because they give us a way to cope with and overcome our anxieties.

i heard one suggestion to treat going to the gym like going to a spa or smth. Just go. Even if you don't work out, because you're too tired (esp if you have worked out a bit hard lately, rest is as important as the exercise!) just go there, bring a book and headphones, chill there and read, so you can get into a habit of going. idk if that'll help but maybe?

I can’t, my anxiety would be through the roof if I just go and don’t work out.... thanks anyway...

I’ve been avoiding my computer these last few days because the sound is just that ... grating. Like wanting to fill my ears with hot lava grating!

(The worst part is that nobody else hears it or understands why I’m so bothered by it. I wish I had that magical ability.)

My trouble is finding good ear plugs. I’ve tried regular ones (way too big and hurt) and silicone ones (don’t block noise at all) and putty ones (ditto) and ... they’re either too big, hurt or useless. And I can’t cope when my ears hurt. I reblogged a while back a post where @neuroatypicalcoelacanth recommended some fabulous earplugs, but of course I hadn’t gotten around to buying them yet.

And I don’t own ear defenders, earmuffs or ear protectors because I can’t stand anything that isn’t a bandanna on my head.

(Seriously, if I have to be so sensitive to sound, why couldn’t the universe have made it so I can endure things that reduce sound?)
