au where the nerd herd are witches. theyre still all in sfit (and alive) but theyre also witches
They show up to school in pointy hats with brooms over their shoulders, but everyone just assumes that they’re really dedicated cosplayers or something. And yeah, they’re witches, but they also all really love science, so they actually ARE working on projects while they’re at SFIT. It’s just that on weekends they all go out flying on their broomsticks late at night, stopping off at a drive-thru to pick up milkshakes before they go home to work on potions and spells.
Honey Lemon is the most likely to mix mediums. After all, there’s a lot of overlap between potions and chemistry, and sometimes she gets them confused. The results are sometimes amazing, but mostly result in stuff blowing up in her face. She’s also the one who wears her witch outfits pretty much all the time, and can get away with it because she has so much style.
Wasabi is the type of guy to try to find the missing link between science and magic. He’s pretty sure he’s on track to find the formula that will explain it all, but it’ll take him many years before he really solves it. Still, he’s patient and meticulous, so he’s not going to give up. He’s the one who’s switched over to mostly regular clothes, because scientists wear more protective equipment than witches, and he likes that. He still wears his hat sometimes though, because he feels naked without it.
GoGo uses magic pretty exclusively for convenience when she’s working at SFIT. She doesn’t try to cast spells on her bike, because as far as she’s concerned that’s cheating, but she’ll use magic to make her tools float over to her and such. She’s very casual about magic, compared to the others. It’s just another tool to her.
Fred is pretty much exclusively magic. He comes from a long line of witches, and it’s so permeated into everything he does, that he just can’t wrap his mind around science and technology. So to him, those fields are the REAL magic. Of course, his magical pedigree means he’s also the best at using magic, so if any of the others ever have problems, they go to him to help figure it out. If Fred doesn’t know the answer, his family probably has a book about it in their private library. Or a scroll. Or a tapestry. They’ve gathered a lot of magical texts over the years, is what we’re saying. His house is also where they go for really important witch stuff, like solstices, or when it’s time to mix up really complicated potions.
As for Hiro and Tadashi, they’re very unique in that they try to separate magic and science as much as possible. At home and around the cafe, they’ll use magic almost as much as Fred does, but at school and in their workshop in the garage? No magic allowed. Tadashi’s convinced it messes with the tech they’re working on, and after years of experience Hiro’s inclined to believe him. They won’t even bring their witch hats into their lab spaces, leaving them on hooks just outside the rooms. The others think they’re weird, but each of them have their own quirks, so they let it slide.
