Supernatural mafia AU stuff: Auras tend to be either a, weird amorphic things, or b, humanoid. Colour varies and tends to be related to the mental state of a person, but what colour and shape goes with what emotions varies so much between people that you’d have to know them personally for years to be able to tell.
There’s a spell to make an aura tangible, like an extra limb or set of limbs, and the spell makes it so that changing the visibility and tangibility (not connected) of the aura is an at will thing.
Hiro’s aura is an eldritch abomination. It doesn’t actually touch his head, it is anchored to an area about 3 centimetres from his skin. Close to him, it’s like vantablack coloured smoke that somehow doesn’t obscure him AT ALL and always keeps 3 centimetres away from his actual body. There’s no visual noise looking at it, just a black so dark it almost seems to glow and hurts to look at. Looking at it, it’s like there’s supposed to be something there, and there ISN’T. It’s less of a presence and more of a cold absence that can pick things up.
It is a mass of tentacles, the edges of which are somehow visible even when they’re in front of each other. At full tangibility, it leaves frost on things it touches that aren’t him. When he hides or masks it, it folds into the 3 centimetre area until it’s all gone. It extends in front of him and behind him but he can somehow see through it perfectly, even when it obscures everything around him. Looking at him, somehow, impossibly, you KNOW there’s hole in reality black in front of him, but he looks floodlit And only him, anything else covered by it in front of him, around him, or behind him is fully hidden. The three centimetres of visible floor around his feet are tinted grey, along with the anything that appears to be within three centimetres of the outside of the thing.
It seems to have a bit of a mind of its own, to the point where he’ll praise it or tell it off sometimes when it does something of its own accord.
Also the tentacles branch at the ends.
Spells fired into it are dampened slightly unless he actually lets them through, and mind magic spells just disappear, as if fired into the ocean or something, although there’s no ripples at all, they’re just swallowed and never reach him.
He doesn’t use the spell very often. Damn thing’s only good in a fight or when he needs a way to keep stuff cold that doesn’t involve ice spells, and it tends to scare people. He doesn’t want to scare his mob with eldritch abominations.

(Oooh, naturally this makes me wonder if his aura isn’t actually due to his depression at all, but something more sinister...
I’m calling it now. The reason he’s got a super powerful aura and somehow ended up as a mob boss for a bunch of supernatural creatures was that it was all planned by some super shadowy council of mythical creatures and powerful demons, because he’s in the middle of some super important prophecy that only they know of, and they can’t afford him dying on them before they’re finished with him. So they manipulate him to give him powers (maybe what he thinks is depression is actually some kind of demonic possession), pull strings and somehow cause both Honey Lemon and the hunters to be in the cafe on that day so that Hiro could save her and end up protected by a huge group of supernatural creatures.
Of course, this begs the question of what the council really wants with Hiro...
