✨🎃Happy Halloween🍭✨
🍷Vampire Calli & 🪞Witch Penny
Okay here's what I have so far for mythical creatures spouses. For those wondering this will be set in a universe where the Bridgertons are hunters. You may have seen that one shot I did already in this universe found here.
Kate, Shapeshifter:
Kate has probably not seen her real face in years, or at the very least has not let it be seen in public. While both she and Edwina possess this ability Kate is the one who far uses it more. Their changes are always more subtle, just to help along things and to blend in a bit more. If Kate uses the ability to make herself appear a bit older, a bit taller, or a bit more like an image where someone will take her a bit more seriously, all of it's to her advantage as head of the Sharma family then so be it. If it wasn't so well known that the Sharma family had no sons and two daughters she would probably have shifted her body into a man. Taking her father's form at least in the passed has helped, especially when his death was not public knowledge. When they came to England Mary had Kate promise not to change her form too much, or too noticeably. Kate agreed, she saw the reasoning as they are new to the ton don't do too much that could hurt Edwina's chance for marriage. Mary's reasoning was actually trying to get Kate to be herself more. Mary was hoping for Kate to get a shot of her own happiness and possible marriage while in England. But she didn't believe that possible without Kate showing some vulnerability, so she's starting by having Kate show her real or at the very least most subtly changed face.
One day in England Kate went out for a ride. This morning she just so happened to have her real face showing. Kate was tired from the journey and didn't have the energy to shift as she normally would. During the ride another rider appeared wearing black coat. Was he trying to race her? Very well it could be fun. Midway through their race something was off to Kate. Every time she tried to turn a certain direction the rider in the black coat would slow down or speed up just enough to block her path or force her to go in a different direction. This man was trying to lead her away from something. They slowed down enough to talk and taking a closer look at him her muscles tightened. A hunter, shit, and he saw he real face, double shit. Later on, her features shifted to just how she plans to be while in public among the ton she sees the hunter again. This time he's introduced as Viscount Anthony Bridgerton. Triple shit.
Sophie, Selkie:
Sophie's mother, Isabella, was once the bride to the Earl Richard Gunningworth of Penwood, or at least by Selkie law she was. While never legally married under human law, the earl had her pelt, which made her his bride. To the humans, Isabella was no more than a mistress. Day after day, Isabella would look for her pelt while Richard was busy with some task or the other. She always secretly suspected that her pelt would be moved to a different property from the one she was at. One day, by some stroke of luck, Isabella found her pelt and off into the night she went back to her pod. When she returned to her pod, she had discovered her pregnancy to Sophie and sadly passed on after giving birth. For a time, Sophie's grandmother raised her until she became too sick, and with no one left in the pod, there was no choice but to send Sophie to her human father.
Now unlike with her mother Richard didn't keep Sophie's pelt from her, but he did isolate her in the country estate with only the servants. And that is how Sophie lived, ignored but still having her pelt. When the old earl married Araminta and brought her two daughters to Penwood not much changed then either except little Posy who always seemed to prefer Sophie's company over her relatives. It was when the earl died that Sophie no longer had her pelt. Araminta took it, trapping Sophie under her control and forcing her to become a servant.
Things came to head after a costume masquerade. Posy claimed to be going as a mermaid, but the tail, it looked like Sophie's pelt. It wasn't, but to the untrained eye, it could easily pass for it. Sophie, unknown to Araminta, had also gone to the masquerade where she danced with a handsome gentleman. After that night, Sophie gained a new determination to find her pelt and leave. Even if she didn't have a pod to return to, and even if Sophie knew human customs better than selkie's, she was leaving as soon as she found her pelt. Araminta's cruelty of locking Sophie in her closet to polish shoes gave her a chance she needed. Posy revealed the truth of her decision after she came to unlock Sophie out of the closet why she chose that particular costume. In Posy's hands, there was more fabric than there was before. No, wait, it was Sophie's pelt. Posy had found it. Well, guess Sophie did have at least one pod mate.
A few years later, Sophie is ready to fist fight that damn horny hunter for her pelt back. How dare he use it against her so she'll come to London! Posy, who has remade her old costume into a look alike for Sophie's pelt, is bidding time so she can make the switch.
Penelope, Witch:
Penelope was born into a coven of witches from her mother's side. Penelope herself ended up being very talented as a mind witch. Some of her magic includes illusion, telepathy, mind reading, and mental manipulation. She's never sure if her father ever knew or just never paid attention enough to know what his wife and daughters were. For the longest time, they spent their time between Portia's homeland in Ireland and the Featherington country estate. Both homes gave Penelope and her sisters the freedom needed to learn their magic. Every time Lord Featherington went to London, it was usually by himself, Portia refused to go, with the majority of her daughters still learning, too many of those nasty hunters running around London.
It was after Lord Featherington's death that Portia made the decision to move the coven to London, at least during the season. She was still the lady of a barony and with no husband or father it was technically her job to see to it until one of the girls had a son. Per her husband's will whoever has the first grandson shall inherit the estate. It's just her luck though that they somehow moved across street from one of the most prolific and celebrated family of hunters in London.
It's also just Penelope's luck that she accidentally knocked out one of these hunters via a magic blast to the face. Well shit, despite what Felicity argues, Penelope can't leave him in the streets. Not with clear evidence of her magic on him. Besides, maybe Penelope will learn some secrets while she heals him. She does love secrets.
Phillip, Vampire:
Now Phillip isn't an ordinary vampire like his father and brother. Phillip took after his mother, who is a lesser known type of vampire that is similar to fruit bats. So, instead of blood, he drinks the juices of fruit and nectar. It's how he got into botany both with regular and mystical plants. He's tired of traveling every six months okay? He's gonna be self sufficient damn it, and the extra income from trading plants used in potions helps too. His fangs are a bit smaller, but honestly, he doesn't need big ones when one's meal doesn't constantly move. He still has the characteristics and abilities of other vampires such as the pale skin, fangs, hypnosis, inhuman strength, and reflexes. I mean, he still is a vampire.
But due to Phillip not being a more traditional vampire has caused issues in his life. Starting with his father beating him every time he did something his father considered wrong or weak. Constantly saying Phillip wasn't good enough. The constant comparing between him and his brother George had left Phillip with a bit of imposter syndrome when word got back to him that he was now the heir to Romney Hall, something his father said Phillip will ruin.
Phillip finds it so ironic when his heir, George's blood, is also born just like him. Drinking the juices of fruit instead of blood.
Raising the twins is something Phillip is struggling with. While Oliver takes after him, Amanda is more traditional and requires blood to survive. The twins don't realize how they can come across yet either, what would be a harmless prank to a vampire is dangerous to a human. Plus the twins have this awful habit of using their ability to transport through mirrors to randomly pop in places and scaring people. This habit leqding a hunter who the twins just so happened to pop in on.
Michael, Werewolf:
Michael was born from a peace union between the hunters of Kilmartin and the werewolf pack that makes Scotland their home. Some of the hunters agreed with this some didn't. Fearful that despite the peace agreement a hunter might try to hurt her son Helen gave strict instructions to Michael to keep his wolf a secret, not even John could know. So Michael did, creating his Merry Rake persona so no one questions his disappearance every full moon, and make it seem like to the other hunters he would be so unreliable they wouldn't dare push him towards a hunter's lifestyle.
The irony is not lost on Michael when it turns out his mate is a hunter in her own right, and his cousin's fiancé soon to be wife. The moon goddess is laughing at him he just knows it. Now more than ever he's thankful for his Merry Rake persona. With his wolf screaming at him about their mate, and trying to hide said wolf Michael is ready to explode. Thank god he's not the earl on top that too, John better hurry up and have some pups soon so he can kick off the title of heir too. God could you imagine that mess? A werewolf as the earl of Kilmartin?
So continuation on my hunter x witch polin au. I just kinda wanted to world build a bit.
"Colin!"
Colin jumped at the sound of his name. He had only just stepped through the door after leaving the witch's home, and three of his siblings were waiting for him.
Anthony and Benedict were still in their gentleman's clothing. Daphne, who was also with them, had yet to change out of her hunting dress with the removable skirt.
"Are you alright Colin?"
Colin nodded. "Yes, I'm fine. I just had to rest for a bit after tha fight with the gorgon."
Colin knows he should have told his family, or at least Anthony, about their new neighbors. He knows he should have, but damn it, he was curious.
Magical creatures don't just blend themselves around humans like this, especially humans of high society. Not since before the dark ages when the last of the ancient kingdoms fell. A time when humans were not only fighting wars amongst them but with magical creatures too. After that, magical creatures mainly kept to themselves in isolated areas. From Colin's experience, witches prefer the natural world and would be more likely found on the edges of coasts or hidden by the trees of forests. They don't end up in Mayfair!
Colin was also curious about that mind witch. He's almost positive she has put some sort of spell on him because why won't he stop thinking about her? And why would she heal him? Yeah, witches typically aren't on the hunters' radars, but that more has to do with them keeping to themselves, not that they like one another. If it was any other witch she probably would have left in the street for fate to decide what happened to him. That baby witch with that shotgun seemed to agree with that sentiment.
"You know you don't look like you've been in a fight with a gorgon," Daphne will tell him later as she looks him over for injuries. "Which is peculiar since I know that that gorgon managed to cut you with her claws right here." Daphne pinched Colin's side which had no signs of being injured at all.
Colin had to admit that mind witch did good work.
"Daph!" Colin exclaimed when Daphne pinched him again.
Daphne sat across from Colin. "Colin, what really happened after we were seprated?"
Colin paused. He knows he should tell at least one of his siblings about their new neighbors but he found he wanted to keep the witches across the square his secret for the moment. Or at least until he can satisfy his curiosity.
Damn what spell did that mind witch put on him?
-
"Felicity, do you need anything while I'm out?" Penelope asked as she adjusted her cloak and hood.
"Where are you going?" Felicity asked. The young witch was practicing her potions work. Particularly measuring out her ingredients.
"Mama asked me to get a few ingredients today. I'll be in Cambridge for a little bit."
Felicity let out an excited noise. "A papaya! If you're going to Cambridge, can you see if Phillip has a papaya!"
A papaya? Penelope turned to look back at her sister. No one in their coven here in England or in Ireland has never used a papaya in their potions or spellwork before.
Maybe Felicity was trying something new? She did make friends with that witch from the Americas recently.
Penelope found herself nodding. "I can see if Phillip has a papaya."
Felicity grinned brightly. Excitement in her eyes. "Thank you!"
Penelope adjusted her hood and walked into the library. Pulling out an atlas, she turned the pages until she found one of England. From there, she pulls out a moonstone and malachite compass and sets it over Cambridge. Leaking her magic into the compass the witch pictures the university town. Whispering in a language forgotten by mortals, she whispered, "Allow me to voyage on the beams of light."
A tug on her magic and Penelope has found herself in Cambridge.
"Now where is my favorite vampire," Penelope said as she tuned into the thoughts around her.
We shall celebrate with drinks tonight!
Mr. Hawthorne would be a good candidate to approach . . .but how to get his attention? All her cares about are drink and women
If I crossbreed plant A and plant C then should produce a bigger crop and a sweeter fruit.
"There he is," Penelope said as she made her way into one of the University's churches. Walking inside she let her hood drop.
But combining plant B and plant D could make the fruit ripe faster if crossbred.
Penelope glanced to her left. Sitting if the rear pew was a brown haired vampire. She took a seat next to him.
A vampire and a witch walk into a church. Penelope giggled in thought, sending the message from her mind to Phillip's. Penelope giggled.
And the hunters lost their minds. Phillip replied in his mind.
Penelope giggled again.
Phillip looked over at Penelope. Another pickup Penny?
Penelope nodded. With the season starting soon, Mama wanted to stockpile on roses for beauty potions.
Phillip nodded. Getting up, Penelope readjusted her hood over her head. Phillip made sure the brim of his top hat was low enough so the shadow would protect his sensitive eyes along with his tinted spectacles.
The two made their way to Phillip's rented home, which also doubled as his greenhouse thanks to spells he traded with the Featherington coven.
Every available surface was covered in some sort of plant. Phillip organized each room by the conditions each plant needed to survive.
Penelope took a deep breath as they entered. It always smells so lovely in here. One would never guess a vampire owned all this.
Phillip rolled his eyes. "I'm not exactly a normal vampire."
"No, you're not Pip," Penelope agreed smiling at her friend. "At least not like the ones they tell in stories around here. Who would have thought if you traveled further south, you would find vampires similar to fruit bats. And that they can produce offspring with blood sucking vampires."
"No one from around here would," Phillip said as he popped a raspberry into his mouth to suck on. "So what are we getting today?"
Penelope pulled out a list. "Mama requested a dozen red roses, a dozen white roses, raspberries, strawberries, and Felicity wants a papaya if you have one."
Phillip paused his gathering of the order. "A papaya?"
Penelope nodded. "That's what she requested."
"For spellwork or potions?" Phillip asked.
"I'm not sure," Penelope said. "Felicity made a new friend in the Americas recently and they've been writing to one another. I don't know if she wants to use it as an ingredient though or if she wants to eat it."
Phillip shrugged his shoulders and the two made their way into the tropical room. A flash of humidity hit Penelope when the door opened. The fruit Phillip picked up reminded Penelope of a squash in shape, the color green with a some yellow. Phillip then picked up two other fruits. One of them was rounder, the coloring being red and green. The other was a very dark green
"Here's the papaya," Phillip said handing Penelope the squash shaped fruit. "Both the seeds and the meat inside the fruit are edible. And if Felicity is interested in more tropical ingredients mangos and avacods are also popular ingredients. Don't eat the seeds for these those."
"Thank you Pip," Penelope said, placing all the new ingredients in her bag. "Do any of the spells need to be updated while I'm here?"
"The cold snap room could use a little bit of attention."
Penelope nodded. "Of course."
The cold snap room was a special area of the greenhouse that was mainly used as rest area for plants that go dormant during the winter months. Or if a plant benefits having some time in a colder environment. Stepping into the room Penelope could tell what Phillip meant. The temperature was a little warmer than what it should be. She'll have to adjust it.
They both took a seat at a nearby table Phillip took notes at. Penelope worked her magic on the spell around her.
"How is your new home? You recently moved to London correct?" Phillip asked.
"It is a new experience," Penelope answered. Her thoughts wandered back to the hunter. There was something about him that reminded her of the fay she grew up with. Hidden meanings in his words, like a puzzle or a secret to learn. Penelope always did like learning what those hidden meanings were. "I actually met an interesting neighbor the other day. He was a hunter."
Phillip looked up, concern washing over his pale features. "A hunter."
"He lives across the square from us actually," Penelope continued.
Phillip shook his head. "Your mama is gonna have a fit."
"Oh most defiantly," Penelope agreed. "Felicity actually almost shot him with sunshine."
Phillip couldn't help the laugh that came out.
Wait, wait, wait! In my hunter x witch polin au I was debating if I should make the other spouses mythical creatures as well and then a lovely mutual of mine ( @aurumacadicus who posts lovely pieces about Avengers shenanigans and Tony Stark getting railed) brought up the idea of fruit bat vampires.
And now I have decided that's what Phillip is.
If you just looked at Phillip, he seems like a normal vampire. His fangs are a little smaller than other vampires, but other than that, nothing too out of the ordinary. He smells very nice compared to other vampires, too. Sweet like fruit. You offer him blood, though he's gonna look at you weird because no, he doesn't drink blood. He sucks the juice out of fruits.
Phillip studies botany because he's gonna be self sufficient damn it! He enjoys being a homebody, thank you very much, and would very much like to not travel to warmer climates every winter just so he can have a steady supply of fruits to drink from. With his botany he also has a side business besides running the barony where he sells herbs and other magical plant ingredients to covens and other potion makers.
This side hustle is how Phillip and Penelope met. He started it a year or two before leaving for Cambridge. Phillip managed to grow a magical ingredient that was out of season. This particular ingredient was one Penelope's coven needed. Penelope ended up trading him for it, and they've been trading and friends ever since.
Since certain ingredients have to be grown, picked, and prepared a certain way to work right in the spell, Phillip consults Penelope on how to do it and he sends her free samples to make sure it was done right.
Did you ever watch Teen Wolf the tv show? Cause the movie gave me an idea for a Bridgerton AU. Modern Witch Penelope x Hunter Colin.
I know of it, but I never watched it. It came out when I was in middle school and the St*rek girlies put me off it when two of them I knew in real life almost got into a fist fight. I don't remember the exact reason other than it had to do with the show, and I remember thinking it was something dumb.
But I like this idea let's see what we can come up with.
So Penelope didn't mean to kidnap the hunter. He just startled her and the next thing she knew a blast of accidental magic hit him square in the face. Said accidental magic then proceeded to knock him out and what was she supposed to do leave him in the mud?
"Yes!" Felicity exclaimed, waving around her shotgun. "Pen you're smart, why would you bring a hunter into our own house?!"
Penelope waved off her sister's flailing arms. "Oh just put Sunshine away Litty. I knocked him out. It's only right that I am the one to make sure he's okay."
"Besides," Penelope said as she turned back to the shield keeping the hunter in. "It's not like I didn't take precautions. And aren't you curious? It's hard to believe a hunter would look so. . .normal."
Felicity scrunched up her nose. "He looks weirder than us, the witches. Someone should teach him to dress normally."
The hunter was actually rather handsome but Penelope didn't want to send Felicity off on another rant. He was still asleep but Penelope healed over any wounds she may have caused, and wounds he had that she didn't cause. He was rather tall, if Penelope had to guess she would say he was six feet, a whole foot taller than herself. She would also guess he was around 28. Chestnut brown hair parted to the side and had a slight wave to it. If she remembered correctly from the brief glimpse she got his eyes were green, one of her favorite colors. He wore the black hunting leather jacket that all hunters seemed to own, black tactical pants, and leather boots. Penelope did have to magically dull his blade though, didn't want him accidentally hurting himself in there.
"You are so lucky Mama left this morning" Felicity said. "She would have had a stroke had she seen the hunter."
"Which is why we're not going to tell her," Penelope said. "Right Felicity?"
Felicity raised his hands. "As long as your bad choices don't kill us first."
A groan gained both sisters' attention, and would you look at that. Penelope was right his eyes are green.
-
Colin. . .surprisingly didn't have a headache when he regain concisouness. Which was weird because he was pretty sure a witch sneak attacked him on the way back from his latest hunt. Keeping his eyes closed Colin focused on his body, trying to see if any new wounds were screaming at him. Nothing felt worse for wear, as a matter of fact his body felt better than when he passed out. Even the wounds he had gotten from his earlier battle with that gorgon were healed. How a gorgon ended up this far from Greece he will never know.
Did Daphne find him? They went hunting together as they normally do when they were forced to split up during the fight. Hopefully she was able to take care of that witch- shit.
Colin felt it. The air around him was humming with magical energy. Daphne didn't find him, the witch took him.
Damn it, Anthony was going to kill him. This was supposed to be a quick mission then they would get ready to meet their new neighbors tomorrow. His mother was so excited too, new neighbors rarely moved in. In fact Colin thinks this family is the first one to move in his whole life time.
Well, hopefully Colin can make a quick escape. First he has to see what he's dealing with.
Opening his eyes two red, curly haired witches appeared in his vision. Both of them were dressed in modern clothing. The younger in a dress, boots, and a cardigan. The older in leggings, tank top, and denim jacket.
The younger, and taller of the two appeared to be Hyacinth's age, 16. She held a shotgun in her hands. The stock and foreshock of the gun was a cherry wood color with golden butterflies decorating the stock.
The older one appeared to be Eloise's age, 23. She was a whole foot shorter than him with a lush figure. Her voice reminding Colin of the sirens and their songs. A golden butterfly hair clip half pulled back her hair.
The younger one noticed him first. She let out a yelp and aimed her shotgun. The muzzle where bullets should come out instead started glowing.
Colin reached for his sword.
"Will you put Sunshine away!" The older one ordered, pressing the shotgun so it was aimed at the floor.
"But-" the younger one stuttered.
"I will handle this," the older one promised.
The younger one threw Colin one last suspicious glare before leaving the room.
"I'm sorry about her," the older one apologized. "She's a little nervous, and when she gets nervous she becomes quicker to pull the trigger."
"Why did you take me?" Colin demanded. "What do you want?"
The witch blinked. "To heal you? I admit I did leave a nasty mark on your face from our bumping into each other earlier. I am sorry for that by the way. It's gone now. You just appeared out of no where and it startled me."
Colin narrowed his eyes. She took him just to heal him? No it's never that simple, she has to have some ulterior motive-
"Mr. Bridgerton, I promise I have no ulterior motive," the witch said.
Colin tensed. This isn't good. "You're a mind witch," he stated.
The mind witch shrugged. "I'm Penelope."
I'm ending this here this got too long again. But good start no?
