The Witch‘s Inconsistent Pyramid?

Does anyone else find it horribly frustrating that The Witch’s Pyramid’s To Know, To Will, To Dare & To Be Silent are associated with different elements depending on the source you get the information from? Does anyone know why this is? Or can you recommend a good source for me?

I have seen correspondences like this:

To Know / Air

To Will / Fire

To Dare / Water

To Keep Silent / Earth

And correspondences like this:

To Know / Earth

To Will / Fire

To Dare / Air

To Keep Silent / Water

Seeing as this is supposed to be a philosophy of magick I find it very confusing and difficult that there is not consistent information on the elemental associations.

Any advice/comments/concerns about this information or the way I’m going about this would be very helpful

Strategic Secrecy

I’ve been re-reading Mastering Witchcraft by Paul Huson. Do you ever feel things in your life like some sort of video game or role playing game where you have to complete certain quests before something is opened up for you?

Like, I knew a guy that was saving music for later. He insisted at some point that all music will be bad and that he never listened to The Pixies or Nirvana but he know they are good. He was just going to save listening to them for later. That’s a little more self-aware than I experience things, but that’s how I think of things afterwards.

So, I’m re-reading Mastering Witchcraft and while it’s not totally my thing as it is way too ceremonial based, it does have some interesting bits. I’m not totally into all of the Witch’s Pyramid, but I dig the Imagination aspect in the sense of witch aesthetic as an aid to spellcraft. I’m always sort of understood the secrecy aspect and the recent discussion of secrecy is why I went back to re-read this book.

Last year I read The Art of War by Sun Tzu and I think I’m realizing that I had to read The Art of War before I could actually grasp Mastering Witchcraft. I’m not sure that makes any sense. The art of war solidified some things I already knew. The secrecy aspect of The Witch’s Pyramid is The Art of War to me. It’s not just about being silent, it’s about strategic about silence. it’s about intentional obfuscation. Nothing is as it seems, and that’s Ok.

A year ago after the saga of having to cut down our huge tree I rebuilt my house wards. I spoke lightly about this. I hinted at it and what i would do. If you followed this blog long enough you would have seen it. I also left traps and built in misdirection. Within a week of setting the wards the decoy was stolen. the decoy was in an obvious place and set to trigger a curse if removed by anyone but me. I posted about the item being stolen and the curse and that the person should bring the item back.

I’ve had asks and messages over this year asking if the item was returned. One even assumed it was a lawn ornament, which it was not. It was an item that was buried in my yard, it wasn’t a jar. I haven’t answered these messages but yes, the item was returned. It was dug up then returned by being thrown into a totally different part of my yard. I wonder how bad things got for them to return it? Don’t steal things from witches.

This is an example of strategic secrecy. Some spells need to be thoroughly explored about how your spells are constructed and what you tell people about them. Can you make telling people about the spell strengthen it? What do you ally people to see? And finally, is there a reason I’m writing this now?

Talking about your magickal workings diffuses the power of that magick. When you complete a spell, the power of that spell is potent and pure. Talking about that, sharing your spell, posting about it on social media, drains that power. Remember the tool: to keep silent.

Sometimes the best thing you can do for your witchcraft is to honor the fourth point of the pyramid -- to keep silent.

Remember that fear isolates us.  Those of us who fear has trapped in its claws feel like nobody understands, because they don't seem affected by the same paralyzing terror and imminent danger that we are painfully, excruciatingly, aware of.

And that's how it wins.

You will NOT understand.  You will NOT know that you are not alone, no matter how many times people tell you.  You will NOT believe them when they tell you that they get it, and you will NOT appreciate their helpful advice.

That's because the gaping black hole with teeth in front of you only fits one person, and that person is you.

Bravery is letting go of the most treasured fear you hold, and jumping in anyway, prepared to fight even if you lose.  It is forward motion even when paralyzed.  It is retreating only to attack from another angle.

It is giving oneself to one's future, instead of allowing one's present to trap one in a cage of complacency and denial.

And if Willow Ufgood can do it, so can we.

  *NOSCERE, To Know means that you will strive to learn as much as you can in this lifetime and that you will apply this knowledge to your daily life. It also means that you will seek truth in all things and be willing to change your perceptions to meet your awakening spirituality.

*AUDERE, To Dare says you have pushed fear behind you and that you will be courageous and proactive in all that you do. You will believe in yourself and have faith in the universe and in your own abilities.

*VELLE, To Will means that you will learn to focus your thoughts and practise meditation and visualization in order to reach your goals. It means that you won't sit back and let the world pass you by - you will work towards your dreams. You will meet obstacles and find positive solutions to overcome them.

*TACERE, To Be Silent, means that you will keep your mouth shut about the magick you do, lest others destroy the magick before it ever manages to manifest. It also means that you will think before you speak, and that you won't throw pearls before swine (giving good information to bad people). Finally, it means that you will follow the etiquette of the Craft and not blab about what happened in the ritual circle, carry gossip, and not harm others intentionally with your words.

*IRE, To Go, means that you will master the four pillars of the base of the pyramid and use them in a positive way to help yourself and others. This is the ultimate meaning of the Witch's Oath of Service.

  As Above, So Below.
