In the witcher world, necromancy drains life out of things but being a necromancer would have so many opportunities because there's a war going on and so much death everywhere. After Felicia finds out her sorcery potential is strongest when connected to death she gets kicked out of Aretuza for her transgressions in pursuit of knowledge about her skills. In usual cases they would've probably honed her powers to be useful to them in some way but with the state of the world and the whole paranoia about mages getting hunted down, the mages at Aretuza decided that they couldn't have mages get a bad reputation because of her and some of them try to kill her but with the help of some of the sorceresses she studied with, she manages to escape but had the understanding that after this, she was gonna have survive all on her own.
She mostly learns things by herself through trial and error without many safety precautions- thus the effects of necromancy. She travels quite a bit and a couple of years later ends up making odd discoveries by accidentally stumbling into the abandoned laboratory under Temple Isle which belonged to a powerful mage. In the laboratory comes across Kiyan, a Witcher who had been captured and tortured who is shown to us in the cat school gear treasure hunt quest in the game.
She finds a way through her magic to bring him back to a more stable state and then heals him and in turn, he becomes a protective figure to her. Kiyan still goes out for a few weeks to do witchering and comes across other witchers of his School sometimes. The cat school witchers are happy to see him alive and its a good thing that mage is dead already because if he were still alive he'd have died a veryyy gruesome death at the hands of a very angry hoard of witchers.
Late on, she learns about the Devil's Pit which is another location in the Games and has a quest regarding the Red Miasmal. The Devil's Pit is a which holds an evil spirit made of all the plague victims suffering. She digs deeper into is and with the help of Kiyan and her necromancy they end up defeating it, allowing her to study the plague more, bringing her closer to the cure for the Catriona Plague.
Post-Red-Miasmal encounter, she gains connection with the Wolf witchers after Aiden introduces her to Lambert. She returns the forgotten Wolf armour to them which he found in the caves and it acts as a sort of peace offering between some of the Cats and the Wolves so that they'd allow the remaining cats to stay over at kaer morhen for the winter, becuase of the war increasing in intensity and the hunts against Witchers and Non-Humans.
