I clean my house, banishing negative energy as I go and then I set my altar. I'm using my kitchen table right now, big, dark wood, plenty of storage underneath for herbs, books, candles, jars.
I light a candle in the center to begin.
With an open mind and heart, I close my eyes and speak out my intentions. I place my hands flat on the table, summoning my strength to open the way for spirits, deities, anyone who aligns with my work. But mainly, I call out to The Magician.
After a few minutes of centering and meditation, I feel it. I see him now in my minds eye, as he steps up to the other end of the altar and pulls out a seat for himself. He sits down with me, a knowing smile present in his young features. He has blond hair, wavy and cropped to lay at his cheekbones. He wears robes that remind me of Jesus, of my dad in the garb of a priest.
I nod to him and I can tell that he understands why I've come before him. To seek knowledge. He begins shuffling a golden deck of Tarot cards, finally running them along the table in a straight line, face down.
He raises an eyebrow to me and I get the cue, it's time to pick a card. I reach instinctively for a card near the middle, a little to the left. I flip it over without hesitation and it's him. His hair, his robes, a golden snake encompassing him. Here he holds a wand, ready to face any challenges in front of him for he knows he has the ability to overcome.
I look back up, the other cards are gone but he remains. He taps his fingers on the altar, nods to the cauldron, mortar and pestle, my own deck of cards. I understand. He is telling me that all of the tools are in front of me. That I have access to the power, I just need to exercise my right to take hold, to lead as I learn. With time and practice, I may become as disciplined as The Magician across from me.
I bow my head to the altar, sending my gratitude into the universe for him to collect. When I look up The Magician is gone, but his card remains in front of me and I know that he is there, always waiting inside this card for me to call on him.
