Announcement: Witchlands Readathon
Hey, guys! You might have seen me talking about this Witchlands Readathon I have planned, but here’s the OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT! So, what’s happening?
Well, this whole thing started because Bloodwitch comes out in January, and I really wanted to re-read the series before then. And I wanted to see if I could find anyone who wanted to read the series with me, and got way more of a response than I was expecting. And that has evolved into me hosting this readathon.
So over the course of several months, we’re going to be re-read the Witchlands series! The schedule is pretty simple. In October, we’ll read Truthwitch; in November, we’ll read Windwitch; in December we’ll read Sightwitch. And, in January, we’ll read Bloodwitch! Which I know we’re all dying to do.
Some people have already been asking about the reading order, so why are we starting with Truthwitch? A couple of reasons. First, I prefer to read in publication order unless the author has a different suggested reading order. And I’m hosting. Second, Susan Dennard has actually suggested reading Truthwitch first, especially for new readers, and I’ve already had several people that have never read the series express interest in joining in for the readathon. Third, this puts Sightwitch, the shortest of the books, as our December read and I know December is a busy month for everyone, with various holidays and all. So, it works out.
The whole point of this was that I wanted to discuss the series with other people as I re-read them, so I’ve set up a Discord for the readathon. RULES FOR THE DISCORD:
1. No harrassment will be tolerated. No racist, sexist, homophobic, or otherwise bigoted language or behavior will be tolerated.
2. No spoilers in the individual book channels. Don’t post spoilers for Windwitch in the Truthwitch channel, and so on and so forth. Theories can go into the Bloodwitch channel. Like I said earlier, there are new readers joining us and we don’t wanna ruin anything for them.
3. Keep it clean. The Witchlands is a YA fantasy series, so I think it is safe to assume that there will be young readers participating in the readathon.
I reserve the right to add or edit rules as necessary. I reserve the right to ban anyone that breaks said rules.
I’m also going to blogging a lot during the readathon. I hope to post something each week focusing on the series in some way. Y’all are more than welcome to join me. If you send me the links to any posts you make during the readathon, I’ll include them in a weekly roundup which I’m planning to post each Saturday.
My planned blog posts (subject to change, but here are some of my ideas):
I’m hoping to do a reading vlog each month, including one in January where everyone will be able to watch me lose my mind over reading Bloodwitch for the first time.
There will be a Witchlands themed Book Tag video each month. For Truthwitch, it’ll be character-based. For Windwitch, it’ll be based on the not-so-mythical beasts like the mountain bats. For Sightwitch, it’ll be based on witcheries. And in January, before Bloodwitch, I’ll be doing a second character one with the character introduced after the first book.
Theory posts! I’m planning on post about the Cahr Awen, on the Hell-Bards and Emperor Henrick, on Ryber, on Eridysi’s family, on the paladins and the origin wells, and more.
Discussion posts! Focusing on observations but not necessarily theories, such as the roles of Merik’s aunt and Safi’s uncle in Truthwitch, or how the Gods seem to function.
Finally, @wildbeautifuldreamer is going to be hosting some giveaways for each book! Keep an eye out for more information on these. I know the giveaways for Truthwitch will begin on September 1st, so stay tuned.
