thank you <333 sorry i havent responded to your comment on ao3 yet but i really appreciated seeing it (as well as all your other ones too) mostly because, i will admit, i have been a Bit Embarrassed by that fic in the past and have considered removing it because it felt like its toed the edge of Too self-indulgent so you don't know how helpful it is to hear that someone enjoyed it beyond myself🕊️

i haven't thought abt pirate au in so long tbh but the basics of it were that dina had a ship with a hivemind crew that allowed her to basically pretend to be a regular merchant vessel to friends and as an actual threat to foes, and as a result had cultivated an ominous reputation as a bit of a ghostship that could be Any you came across. the biggest rumor of all being that she, The Valentine, was some sort of sea monster <3 which was actually true i forget the specifics but i think it was he was half-siren and that's where his telepathy came from... along with an unfortunate familial connection to the universe's hollow ground (actually correct this time, ortega!) which is basically the reason dina got on a boat and started for the Exact Opposite direction of them in the first place.

meanwhile the rangers is a ship that was sort of contracted by the navy to keep tabs on these sort of rogue players. and where either all ex-military or indebted to the border government to work onboard. the timeline hardly lined up to canon because im playing dolls so dina meets the rangers already Well into her piracy and upholds his charade of being innocent despite knowing the trouble this relationship can cause <3 even moreso when she starts getting involved with ortega (beyond stupid).

i actually have... a Lot of old and unpublished writing for this au apart from what i posted on ao3 so for you I'll share this unfinished bit that followed ortega finding out dina is the valentine and that picked up immediately after they had some fight that ended with dina pushing ortega into the harbor and then getting dragged in after as karmic punishment <3

Sea Kelp & Coconut Ritual Bath Salts

You will need:

-3 sheets dried seaweed

-3/4 cup sea salt

-1-2 tablespoons liquid coconut oil

Step 1

Crush seaweed with fingers or a mortar/pestle until it reaches the desired coarseness.

(The finer your crush it, the easier it is to wash down the drain.)

In a clean class jar, blend salt and seaweed.

Step 2

Add coconut oil until mixture is the consistency of wet sand.

Do not use solid coconut oil. It will clog your drain. If you don’t have liquid coconut oil, then substitute olive oil, canola, jojoba, ect.

But I recommend the coconut oil, because it gives it that beachy scent!

Step 3

Scrub yourself with kelp & coconut ritual bath salts before sea witch rituals or when you want to evoke the Element of Water.

the-witch-of-the-wild: This also makes a nice salt scrub for non-witchy purposes and it's great to keep in the bathroom for those that are still in the broom closet. You can also switch out the seaweed for herbs or flowers if you want different salt scrubs for different things.🖤

Ocean potion.

Spell oils enhance the energy of spell tools, candles and altars.

Make a spell oil specifically to capture the magic of the ocean.

Combine:

-2 drops lemongrass

-4 drops rosemary

-2 drops lavender

-2 drops spearmint

Steep in a carrier oil and anoint yourself or your tools whenever you want to feel blown over with a fresh sea breeze.

viago would be the absolute best person to go to for this. get him in a room with whoever is impersonating russo, and this man will be able to analyze every microexpression and tiny movement. there's a specific dance these two have always managed to do, between shouting matches over small disagreements and entire meaningful conversations held in dead silence with nothing but nods and glances. if viago says that this isn't his crow, it isn't his crow

as far as the lighthouse party, i think some of them will be able to tell something is up depending on how often "russo" smiles and around who. he started smiling around some of them -- harding first, neve and bellara and davrin pretty quickly, and eventually the rest -- just from being in the same room. it's like when a cat slow-blinks at you tbh. if this impersonator smiles either too much or not enough, that's a tell
