Andy's laugh held an edge as rough as sandpaper, sharper than her fangs. "You may have had the instinct to protect me, but I never needed your protection."

Besides, that was a lifetime ago. Or Andy's, at least.

Her bloodied mouth moved to a grin. "What's your instinct now? Still wanna protect me?"

Andy tried to hide her fangy grin by biting her lower lip, but that didn't last long. Blue eyes deliberately swept over Nilza, lingering on her lips for a few seconds longer.

"I thought you liked danger," she commented. "And I don't have to be your enemy, you know. We could kiss and make up... or fuck and make up."

The corner of her mouth came up in a faint smirk. "I could argue a lot of things weren't supposed to happen, but here we are." Her laugh was a musical sound, lilting and soft.

Andy pressed her tongue against one sharp fang before she fully grinned.

"I wouldn't say no to it happening again..."

She wanted to heave. The clenching in her stomach didn't help, but Andy knew what it meant. The gut feeling. And Andy could never ignore a gut feeling.

Fuck.

That meant they were in this together.

"Fuck!" She groaned, fists clenched, head falling back. Andy just managed to curb her growl. "The universe is trying to fuck me over. Why else would it put me here with you?"

Andy flashed both fangs and power. The latter crackled around her hands, red and purple lightning sparking at her fingertips. Her eyes had even taken on a lilac hue--atypical of other vampires, whose eyes became golden or amber.

Then she laughed. The visible magic disappeared from her hands, and the purple in her eyes faded back to blue. The fangs remained though, very prominent in her wide smile.

"Real fucking cliche, right? I couldn't resist the opportunity." She laughed again. "Who actually says that? Like, for real."

Andy dialed back on her smile, fangs hidden away when she pressed her lips together and circled back to the matter at hand. "I don't trust anyone, professional or otherwise."
