A soft, almost hesitant knock.

No one knocks on your door. Not even the ghosts.

You open it with a flick of your fingers, black magic curling like smoke around your wrist. And there he is — Adrian Tepes, pale and beautiful in the torchlight, golden hair softly unkempt, the familiar exhaustion behind his eyes.

“(Y/N)… may I come in?”

You step aside silently. Alucard enters, but he doesn’t sit, doesn’t speak right away. He seems… unsure. Maybe even nervous.

He finally breathes:

“I know what my father made you for.”

You stiffen. Your magic flickers.

“I wasn’t made to think about anything else.”

He lifts his eyes to you — soft, golden, painfully lonely.

“And yet you have. You’ve been wandering this castle as though waiting for someone to give you orders again.” He pauses, voice quieter. “I don’t want that for you.”

You’re not used to anyone speaking of your freedom.

Especially not his son.

Your fingers twitch. “Then why come to me?”

Alucard steps closer — close enough that you can smell the faint scent of parchment and steel on him.

“Because…”

He gently touches your wrist, careful not to disturb the swirling black magic under your skin.

“…I don’t want this castle to be as empty as it is.”

Your heart stutters.

“I don’t want you to leave this place just because my father is gone,” he adds. “And I don’t want you to feel like you need to serve me.”

You swallow. “Then what do you want?”

He meets your gaze — no command, no fear, just plain truth.

“For you to stay with me,” he murmurs. “Not as a servant. Not as a weapon. Just as… someone I wish to have near.”

Your magic flares, reacting to emotions you were never designed to feel — warmth, confusion, desire, hope.

“You would keep the strongest black magic witch at your side,” you say carefully, “without expecting anything in return?”

He gives the smallest, softest smile.

“Maybe I simply want someone powerful enough not to leave me behind.”

It hits deeper than he knows.

Everybody was wary of you, of the heavy incense scent cling in your skin, the crystals you always seemed to hold. The weird books about witchcraft and your tarot cards.

So how the fuck did you started dating THE Gojo Satoru?

Not even you knew, one night, you did a spell to attract your soulmate, the one you dreamed about having multiple past lives with, next week, Gojo Satoru was asking you out on a date.

His friends said you cursed him, hexed his soul and the only way for him to free himself was to date you, Satoru replied saying that it was fate; you were too cute to hex people (he doesn't know about the teachers you hexed before because they gave you a low grade or paired you up with bullies), least of all him.

Satoru didn't mind you doing cleansing on him after a bad week, he certainly didn't mind you doing tarot reading about his next game, and he was always too happy to let you put crystals on his backpack to protect him on his way back home. In his eyes, you could do no wrong.

Which certainly made Satoru's friends very wary of you.

"You are sure that she didn't hex you, Gojo?" Shoko asked. "We could try making you get rid of her, I know a shaman!"

"Nah, my Goddess could never hex me, she's a sweetheart." Satoru spoke calmly, waving off his friends words.

Suguru choked on his drink, Shoko patting his back.

"Go-Goddess? Sweetheart?" He stuttered, still coughing. "Satoru, she hexed our coach!"

"Oh? That? I asked her to do it." Satoru shrugged.

"What? Why?!" Shoko asked shocked.

"Well, he didn't listen to my ideas of how we could do the next game, so... I asked my Goddess girlfriend to hex him." He answered, smiling brightly.

Satoru brushed his friends words as they continued to warn him about you, about how you probably would kill him and use his blood in a ritual,

He forced himself to not talk about how he now had your name carved in his chest, and you had his in the valley of your breasts. He didn't told his friends how you two had kissed each other after doing it, how he could feel your soul claiming his, marking him as yours forever.

And he certainly didn't talk about the fact that he was all into doing spells, both normal ones, hexes and...Sexual spells.

It wouldn't help making his friends seeing how good you were to him, how his life good better and more bright with you by his side. After all, you were his Goddess, his sweet witchy girlfriend.

- Lets be honest, he’s not going to approve of your choice in movies. The Love Witch isn’t exactly PG… but he’ll let you watch Sabrina The Teenage Witch! That’s close enough, right—?

- He might let you tone down the colours of your bedroom, but doesn’t let you change it to dark colours like black, sadly. Still have to keep the circus theme!

- Caine likes your style but would try to coax you to wear something more colourful. Maybe try a bright yellow! Or a neon pink! No? Oh well, maybe next time (it won’t work next time either).

- Calls you nicknames right back! A shortened version of your name, “dear,” or maybe “toots.” Gets a bit more peppy-in-his-steppy when you call him something when he’s not expecting it.

- Appreciates when you listen to the other circus members issues. It means less abstractions, which means less work for him… but really, he does find it quite helpful and sweet!

- Does not, however, appreciate your sense of humour. Will probably slap a censor on you when he thinks you’re being ”inappropriate” so you’ll have to tone it down, at least around him.

Gangle

- She’s attached to you, honestly. She just gets so happy and giddy when you call her “darling.” Depending on her mask, she might even give you a small nickname back. She’s be very shy about it, though…

- Adores your style even though she wouldn’t personally wear it. It just looks so good on you, probably not on her, though. She’s feel very flattered if you offered to dress her up, or even in the real world AU do her makeup. She’d probably let you but don’t go to heavy on everything. And it’s not staying on for a long time. She doesn’t like to feel very confined.

- Gangle will vent to you if you let her. If she’s feeling sad, she’ll seek you out to help her. She’ll either want comfort or light advice, so ask her beforehand.

- She finds 1/2 your humour hilarious and the other 1/2 kind of spooky… it really depends on her mask that day. She might make jokes with you or she might just give you a “😨” kind of look, LMAO😭

- Might watch movies with you, but she’ll cling to your arm when scary parts pop up. It’s not that she doesn’t like the movies or shows, it just creeps her out a little.

Kinger

- He’s a little afraid of you at first. He thinks you’ll curse him or something. He gets used to you, but sometimes he’ll scream and run away when you just appear there (He didn’t see you walk in).

- Once you’re there for a couple digital months he gets much more comfortable and even invites you in his pillow fort! Please say yes, it’ll make him so happy. Speaking of activities, he would also ask to find insects with you, seeing how you seem to like spiders. He probably thought you had real spiders on your clothes before he realized they were just decoration.

- Bless his soul, he doesn’t understand your humour. He asks about your jokes every time, and at this point you just pat him on the head and tell him not to worry about it.

- He likes to rant to you about anything. Sometimes it doesn’t even make sense, but you still listen. It makes him really excited to talk about how he once saw a game show that starred dogs in his dreams. And he also likes to vent, but it ends up in him talking about his next grand pillow fort..

- He giggles slightly when you call him petnames. If he had feet, they would be kicking. He probably doesn’t call you anything back, but he appreciates it! If he does call you something, it’s “dear.”

When you come home, you almost fall over your trash that you had placed next to your door so.you wouldn't forget, but you forgot. Well, tomorrow, maybe.

When you close the door it is like taking a deep breath. The silence becomes sacred.

You don't switch on the light, you don't turn on music or TV, you just listen to the sound of solitude. Working customer service drains almost all your social battery and you already feel guilty for not keeping in contact with some friends. It has been months, creeping towards a year now. You think of them, send memes, but you are so tired and empty and joyless most days after work. And you don't want to burden anyone.

Sometimes you find relief in the quiet empty flat. Not empty, lonely. In a good way... you like that... you need to be alone... In your own space, your own time, a space where you can exist for a while without being anything else.

But it never lasts. The trash, the dishes, the laundry. The dirt. You need to rest, but you also need to clean, so you can rest. So you need to eat, so you have energy to clean and then you can rest. Or you need to clean so you can make food, so you can eat... Yeah, always something to do, always searching for the balance between Being and Doing. Today you had already eaten, tomorrow is a free day, so there is only one thing you really "need" to do.

There is a method, a ritual to this. First, you remove the dead flowers from the altar, remove everything that has done its purpose. Then remove everything that can be moved. Wipe down the surface with water and vinegar. Wipe it again with a fragrance. Dust all figurines, crystals, replace the candle, put together the new altar. Fresh seasonal flowers, a pretty leaf, a found ring. Until it feels right.

Then you light the candle and... Feel. You rarely say actual prayers or direct your thoughts to a specific deity. You assume the ones who listen, will hear you, the ones who don't, won't. You ask for little things. Protection, a little bit of wealth, good things coming your direction. You don't bargain. You don't try to force anything. But whenever something good happens, you thank them. You never expected them to answer.

"You know, you could just say my name instead of mumbling into the void."

You sigh, but you can't suppress a smile.

"Loki... what did I do to deserve your blessing today?"

When you turn, you see the Asgardian sprawled on your couch. Casually, wearing something that almost looks like earth fashion, his version of leisure wear. The familiarity warms something inside you. You are very aware of the fact that you have nothing to offer that he couldn't take himself.

"Don't flatter yourself, I was merely bored and your aimless prayers annoyed me..."

His posture doesn't change, long limbs stretched out, taking up all the space. He merely turns his head to look at you.

"Sorry to be such a nuisance." You sigh and move to the kitchen to make tea and fix some food. You wanted to sound amused, friendly, but despite his childish behaviour, Loki is a godlike being, ancient and bored and observing.

"I didn't say that, mortal." His voice suddenly behind you. "But I have to wonder why you insist on broadcasting your wishes into the aether, instead of directing them towards me, your god."

"Jealousy? They say you are petty, but I thought you were above house visits." You place two mugs on the counter. You know which one he likes, strawberry vanilla. An abomination for any tea loving human, but here, in the privacy of your home, he never denies it. Before you can put on the kettle you are pulled into a possessive hug and it's enough to shatter your composure. You just melt against him, helpless, too exhausted to keep up the banter. "Didn't think you would be back so soon."

"My element is chaos, you should know by now not to expect anything." His voice is low, breath dancing over your skin like a promise. "And you sounded desperate. I could help you, you know that. Turn all you stupid coworkers into dogs or something. You would never have to worry about anything. Just be by my side, be mine."

So tempting. It would be easy. Giving in to his demands, leaving all the struggles behind. For however long he would want you.

But despite your frustration, you know the price is too high. Your life sucks sometimes, but it is yours. The occasional adventure is nice and all, but all jokes aside Loki said it already. You are mortal. One day he will be bored, find something or someone to catch his interest and forget you. Leave you behind with nothing but broken dreams.

So you turn in his arms, look up to him. "It would be glorious. I would be by your side, you would show me all the wonders of the universe. I would be drunk from it. High from your attention, completely devoted to you. And you would slowly grow bored. Annoyed by my mortal limitations. Until you would resent me. You would turn cruel. Avoid me. Replace me. I would grow old and bitter. Not able to leave you, because I would tie myself to you forever. Until I would see only one way to end it. And maybe you would feel sad for a moment, but what is one mortal life compared to eternity. Maybe there are a thousand timelines where I said yes. But in this one, I can't. I can't give up myself. I wouldn't be what you want anymore."

You only notice you are crying when he kisses your cheeks, with a softness he rarely shows. "Your wisdom would be worthy of Asgard, you could have been exceptional among my mother's scholars. But I will not force you. If you won't be mine forever, then be mine tonight. Let me at least have you tonight."

There is something in his voice. An urgency, a need. You want to believe that he feels the same desperation. If things were different. If you were born on Asgard. If you weren't broken and twisted already. And you want to believe that in some timeline a version of you exists that can love him without the pain.

"Just tonight" you say, as you have said a hundred times before. Keeping up the illusion that this is nothing more than a sweet moment and that your heart doesn't belong to him already.

“Any rocks can protect if ya throw ‘em hard enough.”

“Whatcha always do that for?”

I blinked, coming back to earth abruptly to find myself twisting the chain of my necklace between my fingers. I stopped, heat flooding up my cheeks, and shrugged. “Habit, I guess. Didn’t realize I was.”

Daryl’s brow was furrowed, a small wrinkle as he stared down at me. I shifted under the intensity of his eyes, like I always did, and hoped he’d stop staring soon. I reached back up, fiddling again automatically, before shoving it impatiently under my shirt and staring down at my hands.

“What’s it about?”

“Huh?”

Articulate. Great. Fantastic job, I informed myself snidely. Oh well.

“The book. Seemed into it.”

Why was he talking to me? I wondered, a little desperately. He’d ignored everyone since he arrived at the quarry. Everyone except his asshole brother, that was, and spent most of his time in the woods killing things- not that I wasn’t grateful to be eating- and now he was…. Chatting?

“Oh. Um. It’s Dale’s,” I admitted, somewhat lamely. “Some thriller. Already figured out the killer.”

He scoffed, hint of a smile on his lips. “Ain’t a zombie, right?”

That got a laugh from me, and he cracked a bigger smile back. Then he jerked his chin toward the necklace I was somehow spinning again, despite not knowing I’d reached for it. “What’s them stones? Pretty. Just weird shapes.”

I grimaced. This was the part where he, like everyone else, would decide I was crazy. “They’re… crystals?”

“Say that like it’s a question,” he said mildly.

He was right; I had. Damn it. Before the dead started rising- a sure fire indication that magic or some equivalent was real, thank you very much- I’d been vocal about my beliefs. Now… it seemed unimportant in the face of survival. People looked at me more strangely now than they ever had before all this.

But I still believed, now more than ever, and I hated the hesitation in my voice.

“They’re crystals,” I repeated, firmly and confidently. “I believe certain stones have innate abilities to protect, to heal, to boost energy, etc, and- what?”

I broke off at his mutter, eyebrows raising when color flooded his cheeks this time.

“Sorry,” he muttered. “I said, ‘any rocks can protect if ya throw ‘em hard enough’.”

I burst into laughter, harder and more genuine than any I’d done since the world ended. When I got myself under control, he was studying me again, those eyes more fierce a blue than the sapphire in the evil eye bracelet that had broken when I’d fought my way out of Atlanta.

“Like that. Ya laugh. Should do it more.” He gestured at my neck again when I blinked, shocked silent. “Them crystals. What’r they for?”

“Protection,” I managed, holding up the black obsidian before switching to the rose quartz, “and attracting love.”

I wasn’t thinking about my words, too focused on his casual assertion that I should laugh more. When they’d left my lips, I wished for a minute the ground would swallow me whole. Why hadn’t I just said “self-confidence”? It was equally valid, and far less embarrassing, and-

“Huh,” Daryl grunted. “They work?”

I shrugged. “Ain’t dead yet.”

“Fair enough. How ‘bout the love one?”

I looked away, rather deliberately opening the book in my lap so my cheeks wouldn’t flame again. “Don’t know. I’ll let you know someday, I guess.”

“Yeah,” he said quietly. “Someday.”
