An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
I've just read this WIP over the last two days, currently 156k, and rated E.
It's very, very good.
We have guilt-ridden priest Jayce, sent to a small parish to take over from the elderly incumbent. Viktor, having inherited the property from his grandfather, is the owner of the cherry orchard next door to the church.
They meet on a dark night, and sparks immediately fly.
The villagers ostracize Viktor, but strangely do not want him to leave, and are happy for him to remain on his orchard. They come to him under cover of darkness, to ask him for 'witchy' teas, to have their fortunes read, and take the bird-bone charms he makes back to their homes.
Jayce is a young priest, sure in his belief in God, but wrestling with his nature. He is nevertheless enchanted by Viktor, and chooses to run past his house in his tight, and ludicrously short shorts. Viktor can't help but notice, as he sits smoking on his porch, awaiting his handsome neighbour.
This is a very well plotted folk horror, and more and more unsettling details are revealed as the story progresses. It's currently 8/13 chapters, and perfect for spooky season. It's been one of the fics I couldn't put down, and thoroughly recommend it. It's Archive locked, so you'll need an account to read it.
