1/2 Hello ! So I really want to get your opinion on something. You remember how we were all ‘omg, Eliott already revealed that he saw him on the first day of school’ in clip 1 of ep5? It was so ahead of OG that we were so happy about it? This confession brings Lucas (and us to such highs) and I feel it was really smart on the writers’ part. Eliott is basically telling Lucas he has feelings for him and Lucas is obviously very moved that what’s he’s feeling is not one-sided.
Oh anonnnn, do I remember! A normal person’s reaction to Elu’s gorgeous morning in bed together would be joy and happy tears but oh no, not me.
Seeing how the writers had completely moved up Eliott’s sweet confession to Lucas, one of my first thoughts was OMG WHAT ARE THE WRITERS GOING TO DO TO US?! THAT WAS TOO GOOD; THAT WAS TOO NICE! OUR BOYS ARE GOING TO DIE. THERE MUST BE A LOT OF PAIN COMING! It truly felt like the writers promising us that things were going to get so bad by the end of the episode. And they kept their promise, didn’t they!
In all seriousness though, yes, the writers certainly knew what they were doing when they had Eliott and Lucas become so emotionally intimate together so quickly. It’s like they made Lucas live out an entire relationship in the span of one week, packing in a similar amount of a emotion that someone normally deals with over months.
They made Eliott’s words give Lucas so much reason to believe that Eliott was serious about him and absolutely enamored with him (because he is! But Lucas doesn’t know that anymore!). And they did that so that when Eliott was seen all happy and smiley with Lucille, his feelings for Lucas would feel like a lie or just some fleeting fanciful phase Eliott went through; so that Lucas would think: How can you say all of those romantic things to me but be here with the girl you said you’d broken up with for me? How could you smile like that and keep kissing her? You can’t actually have felt the things you said you felt for me if you can so easily be with someone else. I was never actually special to you.
I really like the way you describe it as feeling like Lucas was destroying all the good times with his fist when he was lashing out at the gate. He probably was. And not just destroying the memory of I saw you the first day of school but also destroying a whole bunch of others as well: like the You look beautiful when you sleep drawing; the You’re the first person I’ve taken to my secret hideaway that Polaris is based off of confession; and the I broke up with Lucille and I’m not sad about it because it means I can be with you now giddiness…
All of the good times would automatically turn to ash and disappear in light of that sort of betrayal. You just don’t look at your ex-girlfriend like that if you feel the way you claim you do about someone else. You would absolutely question everything you thought you knew about that person’s intentions with you. You’d feel reduced to just being that sweet piece of action on the side.
Lucas thought he was someone special for Eliott; he thought they were on the same page, feeling the same things…but then in the span of a few minutes, he was left with nothing. This whole time he thought he was standing on that ledge with Eliott, Eliott was actually beside Lucille. So farewell to those false happy memories. :(
