It literally amazes me every time I watch 'The Dark Knight' how Heath Ledger is virtually unrecognizable as the Joker.
With Hammers and Nails | Heather, Poppy & Heath
Poppy paced nervously through her apartment, checking on the casserole in the oven and drinking copious amounts of wine, wondering if she wouldn’t rather just tie a noose around her neck right here and now than have the impending conversation she knew tonight would come to. God knows she loved Heather more than anyone and anything, but this secret she’d been keeping from her didn’t feel ready to be spilled.
But Heather wasn’t dumb; quite the contrary, she was a brilliant and amazing young woman who’d caught onto Poppy’s odd behavior lately like a bunny to the scent of a clover. Tonight they’d made plans to hang out with the premise that Heather wanted to talk about her interesting little meeting with the new guy in town, Thane Lovell. That would prove to be a very question filled conversation on Poppy’s part, but she knew Heather also had inquiries of her own.
About Heath.
Julia hadn’t kept the secret quite the way Poppy had hoped the little girl would. The moment they’d left Heath alone in that room at Julia’s birthday party, they’d gone to find Heather. Poppy’s friend had been frantic in her search for Julia, chiding the child softly at running off. Julia changed the subject rather quickly though, petting Penelope absentmindedly as she told Heather all about how she’d caught Ms. Poppy and Mr. Zach’s brother-- the one that was always scowling-- kissing in the family room.
Heather had been shell-shocked, that much was obvious. No matter how bad she felt about it, Poppy still hadn’t been able to bring herself to tell Heather about all that had gone on between her and Heath since that initial meeting at his garage.
But tonight that would change. And Christ, how was Poppy going to explain to her best friend that she’d slept with him of all things, and that she was steadily on the path of falling for him, to boot. She wasn’t ashamed of her feelings; or of Heath. But she knew Heath didn’t want this thing they had going-- whatever it may be-- getting out, and while she trusted Heather with every fiber of her being, it was still going to feel a bit wrong to break Heath’s trust.
Didn’t matter now anyways; Heather was knocking on the door and dinner was almost ready and Penelope was hopping excitedly as Heather called Poppy’s name when she didn’t move to answer the door right away. “Coming!” Poppy said frantically, opening the door with a bright smile. “Come on in, love. I’m making your favorite casserole, the kind with the sage and brie in it that you like so much!” She ushered Heather in, offering to take her friend’s coat. “Now, waste no time, spill all about this Thane guy. I’m dying to know!”
more than flesh and bone | Poppy & Heath
It was supposed to storm today. Poppy looked out the shop’s window toward the sky, mouth setting in a straight line as she noticed the gray clouds forming. Usually she loved the rain, but today she was afraid it would kill the narcissus plants that had just began sprouting in her garden. They’d taken months of tender care to even see the first sign of them, and Poppy would be more than upset if the storm were to drown the little darlings.
Sighing, she turned her attentions back to the computer, numbers filling the screen. Budgeting wasn’t her favorite thing in the world, but it was a necessity. Though the flower shop had a fair amount of business, Poppy had to go without a lot of things– like a new pair of shoes. She looked down at the worn wedges she wore now, frowning. They were about to fall apart, but beggars couldn’t be choosers.
Just as she was adding up the shop’s mandatory costs, a loud engine gurgled outside. Poppy blinked, looking to the source of the sound with eagerness and trepidation. It wasn’t who she’d thought it been, though.
It’d been two weeks since her and Zach’s interaction with Heath Celton. She didn’t ask Zach how things had gone after her departure, instead filling the car ride back to her apartment with idle conversation and promises of keeping Zach’s relationship with Hazel Bekket a secret. It wasn’t Poppy’s place to tell anyways– she was just happy Zach had found someone that could make him smile the way Hazel did.
Poppy turned her attention back to the computer, wondering for the hundredth time if she couldn’t just go back and talk to Heath herself. Really, she had no reason. She’d thanked him as she’d wanted to do for so very long, but now…now she wanted to help him. She wanted to fix all of the hurt the eldest Celton seemed to be surrounded by.
Her mother had always said Poppy cared too much, and that it would get her into trouble one day. But if trouble meant making Heath see people really did deserve a second chance, Poppy was willing to risk it.
Absentmindedly, she looked out the store window again, catching glance of a dark head of hair and a tall, hunched frame. The stance was too familiar. It couldn’t be… She rushed outside before she knew what she was doing, stopping on the sidewalk just a couple of steps behind the man.
“Heath!” she called, just as thunder rolled overhead. Rain began to pour. Poppy didn't care that she was soaked within seconds; she just wanted Heath to turn around. “Heath! Hey, hey!”
