“it’s not a hopeful ending :(“ it literally is though. it literally is. just because you can’t save everyone doesn’t mean that you don’t try. just because someone couldn’t save themselves doesn’t mean that they didn’t matter, or that they didn’t touch your heart in a profound and meaningful way. just because you lose people doesn’t mean that you give up on living. just because the world gives up on you doesn’t mean that you give up on yourself. just because you do bad doesn’t mean that you can’t do better.
losing people that you love is inevitable. it is an uncomfortable idea to reckon with, but it is true nonetheless. pulling that punch would have only served to dampen the message the series was attempting to convey. you live with the memory, you live with all of the joy that person brought into your life, and you focus on the people who are still around. You learn to live with all of it, and you live because you choose to, not because you have to.
