They make children’s clothes, in the daytime. :P
Though I would love to see a derivative company with a suspiciously similar name with the serial numbers filed off appear as an evil corporation similar to Roxxon in Marvel comics, I’ll admit.
I’m pretty sure another US weapons contractor also makes toy trucks. The world is a scary place at times. XD
hi i really like the marvel films and for a while now ive wanted to try and read the comics but i have no idea where to start, if you could recommend stuff for me thatd be great (especially iron man but just the avengers in general really). also your blog is awesome!!
Hey! Thank you so much!
I will be honest and say I have not read much Iron Man or the Avengers but I will see what I can do here.
I buy my comics in volumes from my local comic book store. In case you are new to going to a comic store or buying comics in general, I will lay out the background to help it be less overwhelming:
The comics first come out as in paper issues, one at a time. If the comic gets popular enough, then after several issues they will be bound into a volume, and occasionally later, if there are several volumes, it will be bound into an even larger grouping of the volumes, referred to as an Omnibus. I prefer getting either volumes or the omnibus volume when possible so I can sit down and read several issues at once. It tends to be both cheaper and requires fewer trips for more purchases.
You can also order comics off Amazon. Marvel also has apps that you can download too if you prefer going more that direction (the links I listed below from withironhands also includes more information about how to read them online).
Matt Fraction is one of my favorites for writing comics, and luckily, he wrote a new arc of Iron Man that has been very popular and will most likely be most familiar to one who is familiar with the movie version of Tony Stark. It is called Invincible Iron Man. I would recommend buying them as volumes. I found a great write up on the ordering http://withironhands.tumblr.com/post/39840961200/how-to-start-reading-iron-man-comics
As for where to start with the Avengers comics withironhands did another great write up here: http://withironhands.tumblr.com/post/40522688264/how-to-start-reading-avengers-comics
It gets a little complicated with the Avengers because unlike comics that focus on an individual character, The Avengers have several different authors going in different directions with different incarnations. That said, withironhands laid out the different options as to where one can pick it up, and who is a part of “the avengers” team within a particular arc.
As for what other comics you might want to get into:
Kid Loki is amazing. If you want to get to know a side of the Asgardian princes not seen in the MCU I would recommend starting with it. It takes place right after Ragnarok where the Loki we know dies. Thor misses his brother and brings him back, reincarnated as a child. I did a write up for it here: http://femmarvelnerd.tumblr.com/post/100617059244/here-is-a-part-of-my-comic-book-collection-i Since that particular arc, Loki: Agent of Asgard has been added and is also quite good. This write up also includes The Young Avengers as well as some Young X-Men via New Mutants, and the Avengers (with Bucky as Captain America) also make an appearance in Fear Itself. It is a great way to see a lot of favorite characters known from the movies without needing to know a great deal about anyone’s backstory.
Another fantastic current arc is Hawkeye, also by Matt Fraction. The first volume is My Life As A Weapon, and there are two more volumes that follow . In it, we see a much more relatable Hawkeye then we see in the MCU, where he pals around with a friend, Kate Bishop, who is in the Young Avengers and also has the codename Hawkeye. I seriously could not get enough of these comics.
I have several other recommendations, but I am sure I have overwhelmed you enough here. Let me know if you wish for further Marvel recommendations!
I will say, though, that if you wanted to read something not superhero affiliated, read Saga. It is without a doubt the best comic series I have ever had the pleasure of reading. There are currently four volumes out and it just keeps getting better and better.
