As a kid, Princess False of the Symmetry Kingdom is a free spirit. Best shot with a bow, quick with a sword, always out exploring. She's her parents' pride and joy, knowing their land will havr such a strong leader, one day.
What they don't know is that False has a secret friend she goes exploring with. Stress is a sweet girl who seems right at home in nature, who she explores the forests outside the kingdom borders with. Over the years they grow close, but Stress makes False promise not to tell her parents about her. Stress' own parents are apparently very controlling, and as a result she ran away from home. She's afraid they'll find her, and never leaves the woods. She never goes into more detail than that, though, and False knows very little of Stress' life before the forest.
And slowly, as the two grow up into young women, they grow mutually attracted to one another, though Stress always seems to shy away from False's affections, even after they both confess, as if afraid of hurting the girl.
Then one day, when False steps out into the woods after some combat training... Stress is gone. The little hut they built together for her in the woods looks like it was attacked and broken into, and that there was a brief struggle. Of the woman herself, though, there is no sign. Did... Did her parents finally find her? False has no way of knowing, and is heartbroken.
Returning to the kingdom, False's parents can tell something's happened, but don't pry. They've long since realized their daughter's heart belongs to someone she's been meeting in secret since childhood, but have respected her having reasons for not revealing them. It does, however, make what they have to tell her now kind of uncomfortable.
She's being pushed into an arranged marriage.
Her parents had always intended for False to be able to pick her partner, but with tensions rising with the nearby Monster Kingdom, they've agreed to a marriage in order to try and stabilise things. The dark Monster Kingdom have recently recovered one of their runaway children, after all, and are more than happy to fob her off on another kingdom and never have to deal with her again. Especially when same-gender arranged marriage is considered a good way of strengthen bonds with reduced worry of children.
So when the day comes, weeks later, False stands with her parents in their castle courtyard, waiting for the fiancee she's never met to arrive.
When a rather sombre looking Stress steps out of the carriage, False's low mood completely evaporates, something her parents immediately take note of and put the pieces together. Princess Stress of the Monster Kingdom looks utterly downtrodden, as if defeated, but that too changes the moment she lays eyes on her love, the wide, happy grin False thinks suots her better rapidly returning.
They try not to be too obvious sbout it while the Monster Kingdom guard are still at the castle, but once they're gone and the two are alone, they embrace with happy tears.
Now they never have to be apart ever again, what with the impending wedding, and False can finally introduce Stress to her parents after all these years.
Imagine if Stress’s parents were making her marry a woman to “punish” her, thinking she was straight. Oh, how it backfired.
