Ren at first was confused why Doc kept bringing him food and trinkets
But then it struck him.
It was a mating ritual.
Ren still hasn't pieced together what the different items are supposed to mean. He tried to ask Python (a challenge in itself nowadays, being on different servers.) The creeper simply laughed and told Ren he'd have to figure it out himself if Doc hadn't told him. Which is not particularly helpful, he's gotta say.
So far, all he's managed to figure out is that the food has something to do with proving Doc can take care of them. The trinkets seem to be genuine gifts Doc thinks Ren might like, though! He can tell Doc's put a lot of thought into this.
At first he rejected them, not wanting to feel like Doc 'owed' him anything (however ridiculous that is) but he accepts each one gratefully now. He will say, Doc's culture or not, they are going on at least one date before they get down and dirty. Ren's a classy guy, okay?
Lately I've been thinking of an AU, with dark!Grian and dark!Ren
Basically, Grian is the gamemaster of the LifeSMPs and they ended up loving Ren's "Red King" theme (and Ren's monarchy in general) that he ends up offering Ren a place as a watcher, the only "convincing" that was used was saying he would have a whole lot more power in that position
ren has pretty long hair, but he usually keeps it in a bun or ponytail, martyn adores braiding and combing his fingers through it whenever ren lets it out

Doc hates the snow. Like, really hates it. For one, his fur isn't thick enough to keep him warm during winter. Two, technology can only go so far. With how cold it is and the snow, his bionics shut down if he's outside for too long and he'll have to restart them completely if even a little water gets into them. It's torture for Doc to stay inside most of winter alone.
Ren, on the other hand, loves the snow. He's RenDog after all. What's there not to like? Winter is great, so is the cold, and the snow is the best part. It's soft and cold, along with it coming around every year.
Though, what Ren doesn't like is how Doc can't go out in it. He knows that Doc probably would go out in it if he could. So, Ren instead spends those days inside with Doc. Talking the creeper's ears off and being a "nuisance".
It's not easy, but they find compromises. Doc would feel terrible if he kept Ren indoors all winter. So they put their heads together (literally, they spend most of their time cuddling) and come up with a bit of a solution.
It's a porch. They've re-invented the porch. But it has a nice heat lamp that Doc can sit under, bundled in a big warm coat to keep his systems operational. He still can't stay out forever, but a few hours is manageable.
And this way, he gets to see Ren run around and laugh, jumping through the snow. It clings to his fur, leaves him cross-eyed at flakes falling on his nose. It might not be super cool science, but Doc thinks it's pretty great.
to contrast w/ the last post i submitted- i think that the HC server has regular nest nights- they make a big nest in spawn with bits from everyone. while its not mandatory- its rlly weird to not join in unless they have a reason (off server, sick, insticts-) its a time for them all to just chill, put aside plot points and talk and cuddle and nap just. together as a group -🥩
It really is just one big cuddle pile. For some of the hybrids, it's exceptionally comforting. Doc, Grian, Ren, and Gem are known to plan for weeks in preparation. They don't want anything to get in the way of this. It's gotten to the point where hermits will often go to one of them if they have any concerns or requests for the night in question. They take each comment seriously, of course, and curate the experience based off them as well as the occasional fun theme.
(They got to do an impromptu one with the Empires folks while they were over there, and the emperors were swiftly overwhelmed by the amount of affection they received.
Of course, that means any hermits left behind on the server didn't have anyone to cuddle with...)
