How To Conjure A Spirit
Note: I assume at this point you know the basics of witchcraft. Protection, CGS< cleansing, banishing, basic divination, sense energy etc. If you do not know how to do these things, SKIP THIS GUIDE or COME BACK TO IT LATER.
Conjuring spirits is very simple if you have the right tools and the right instructions. To conjure a spirit is not complicated. It’s just asking them to come to you and your area. There are a few steps you need to take before you start the conjuration first. The very first thing you should do before even attempting the steps of conjuring is to think. You need to think about what you are conjuring, why you are conjuring, and how you will conjure it. Think about if you are ready to conjure and communicate with spirits. Are you ready to deal with possible negative spirits, ready to banish and cleanse quickly/efficiently and ready to handle anything that may be thrown at you? Do you also have the basics of magick down? If you did all of these things and you’re CONFIDENT, then move onto the next steps.
The first step is to add your protections. Protections(good ones that is)keep away the spirits you don’t want, keep you, your home and your family safe and are an easy way of preventing things from going wrong. You should have a circle cast around you, personal shields/and or spells to protect you, shields/spells to protect your home, your tools and your family. After you circle is cast and your protections are up, you need to cleanse, banish, ground and center.
To cleanse, you can use incense, sigils, incantation, a spell, or even energy. Cleanse your house, tools, and self. Cleansing your tools(more on which tools you will need) is important as negative/stale energies can affect your conjuring.
After cleansing, banish any spirits or negative energy that may be left over. If the spirits are negative, decide whether conjuring would be the best idea.
Once banishing and cleansing is over, ground and center yourself. This is witchcraft 101 and should be learned BEFORE any type of spirit or spellwork. Now you are ready for your tools.
Tools needed:
Spells for protection, cleansing, and banishing on hand. Spells for privacy and binding may be necessary if you want to bind a spirit. I am only focusing on CONJURING right now.
Information about the spirit you are wanting to conjure
A call/chant to conjure the spirit(how to write one will be coming later in this piece)
A way to communicate(pendulum, ouija board, tarot cards, etc). If using telepathy, then this is not needed.
Offerings. THIS IS SUPER IMPORTANT AS IT CAN BE SEEN AS DISRESPECTFUL IF YOU DON’T HAVE OFFERINGS. Research the spirit as best as you can and try to figure out which offering it would like best. If you don’t have anything, water is the best way to go.
Journal. This is to write down the tools, spirit, experience, and can be used to note down the energy of the room before the spirit and the energy of the spirit. WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING.
Let’s move onto the conjuring now. Calm your sense, breathe in deeply, and focus. Think about the spirit you want to conjure, think about your protections and think about your tools. When you are ready and focused, begin your call.
You can make a call in many ways but the most common is this. It’s simple, easy and can be modified to will. This basic call works for many if not all spirits:
I wish to speak/communicate/call/conjure a (spirit name/type here) to (reason). I have an offering of (insert offering).
You can also imagine these words going into a ball of energy and the energy going out to the universe. You can do an invocation but that requires the spirit to be IN you and I won’t write about what I don't know. Now that your call is out, wait a moment. Try and sense the energy of the room. Test all your senses. If using a pendulum, try and see if it swings. If using tarot cards, maybe shuffle them a bit to see how if anything shows up. If you get visions, try and decipher them. If no spirit answers after, let’s say 5 or so minutes, try the call again. If nothing answers, pack up and try again. Look at your notes and see what went wrong.
If something did answer, begin communicating with it. Ask it simple questions, do not ask for companionship/favors right away, and do not REVEAL TOO MUCH ABOUT YOURSELF. You can either offer it before, during, or after the conversation. When you are done with it, thank it for its time(unless it’s a fae/ other spirit where thank you is dangerous), ask it to leave. If it does not leave, ask one more time and then banish it. Undo your circle, cleanse yourself/tools/home, protect them again if you want, and journal your experiences. Later, make sure the spirit isn’t hanging around. Congrats, you’ve just conjured your first spirit. Practice as many times as you want.
FAQ What’s the best spirit to conjure?
A tricky question. The best spirit to conjure is one that you can banish, you gravitate towards, and isn’t dangerous. Plant/kind animal spirits seem to be the best/common choice for beginners. The rule of thumb is don’t bring up what you can’t bring down. Don’t conjure a powerful ghost and be upset when you get haunted. STAY IN YOUR REALM OF ABILITIES.
What questions should I ask it?
Polite, respectful questions. For example “how are you?” and “what name do you prefer?”. Simple and easy. You can move slowly into deeper ones like “what magic do you perform?” and “would you like a companion?”. Do your research on the spirit as that will help far more than my generic questions.
When should I not conjure a spirit?
You shouldn’t conjure a spirit when you scared/on edge, drunk/on drugs, without proper protections/tools, etc.
What happens if the conjure goes wrong?
BANISH. BANISH. BANISH. If the spirit is dangerous, banish it as quickly as possible. Protect and ward your home/family/self/tools. Cleanse your tools. Do not attempt any contact for a few days. Keep your guard up and look back to see what wrong. If anything escalates, reaching out to someone(creepyhollows forum is great for this) is the best way to go. DO NOT PANIC. Spirits can feed off fear. Keep calm, meditate, CGS and banish/protect.
What if I don’t know the basics?
You shouldn’t be conjuring. You should know how to protect, cleanse, banish, cast spells, CGS, and more. If you do not have any understanding of the basics of magick, you are not ready to even THINK about spirits. Simple as that. Spirit work is a dangerous(but very worth it) path. You cannot go into it blind.
How can I have telepathy with a spirit? Practice and more practice. Try to open up your Clair senses as much as possible, have another VISIBLE form of communication on hand, keep calm, and start by speaking/mouthing aloud. It takes work and some may find it harder than others
How do you I know what I’m talking to?
Test the energy. Everything/one has energy and if you get good, you can tell the difference between a good spirit and a bad. Test the energy of cleansed/uncleansed items and protected/unprotected items. Test animal, friends, etc energy. See how it is different and how it’s the same. PRACTICE. Gut feeling also works. Your Clair senses may help you pinpoint whether or not something is good or bad. Your protections will probably not let anything through if you’re specific enough. You can also have someone with you. It’s always a 50/50 chance no matter how good you are. If you’re unsure if something is real or not, you can always consult a tarot/pendulum(though pendulums are a bit difficult). If it’s too good to be true, then it’s fake.

THE WICCA BOOK OF DAYS, FOR 9/30/15
September 30th Immortal Try September 30 marks the start of the Celtic tree month of the Ivy (ends October 27). Being an evergeen, the Ivy (Hedera) has universal significance as a symbol of immortality, and of resurrection and triumph over death, which is why it was sacred to Osiris, the ancient Egyptian god of the underworld. Because it clings tightly to trees or structures, it was further more said to denote faithfulness. Also a fertility symbol, this fast-growing plant was depicted adorning the Greco-Roman wine god Dionysus/Bacchus, and so, although thought to prevent drunkenness, it came to represent revelry, too. A Faithful Facsimile Honor Dionysus, and celebrate the spirit of the ivy, either by wearing an ivy wreath for your door or by recreating the god’s thyrsus, or staff, for your altar. Make this by winding a strand of ivy around a wooden stick topped with a pinecone,, you could also add vine leaves.
