soonyoung was never one to play by the rules
although his parents warned him not to show his powers to anyone, he couldn’t help it
he was a real life superhero! why wouldn’t he show people?
he also had a little trouble controlling them
because his parents couldn’t help him all the time, and he wasn’t allowed to practice in public, his powers were coming out as bursts of emotion
thankfully he was getting stopped before anything too bad could happen, but his parents were beginning to get worried
what would happen if he was noticed? or if he hurt someone?
they were especially worried about you, the little girl next door
soonyoung was with you more often than not, playing or walking to school together
you were quieter than he was
but seemed to keep up with him no problem
and you were none the wiser to his powers
soonyoung told you every day that he was magical and had superpowers
“but they’re a secret” he would say “i can’t tell you or else ill be in trouble”
“but i promise i won’t tell anyone! promise!”
he would just laugh and shake his head, taking your hand to drag you towards class
but there was always a nagging in the back of your head that something was truthful about what he was saying
but that is nonsense right? no way is this hyper boy magical
magic only existed in stories right?
it had been several years since your youthful days with soonyoung
several years older, he still told you he was magical despite being in sixth grade and being much too old to believe in that anymore
you were outside on your porch, looking up at the stars
they were incredibly beautiful tonight, brighter than you had ever seen
tonight was supposed to be an eclipse and you wanted to see it
you eyes were focused on the sky, glued to the moon just as it started
but almost as soon as the moon was beginning to change color, a scream irrupted from next door
soonyoung was on the floor of his living room, holding his head
all around his objects began to move, whipping around
lamps were thrown against the wall, the couch was flipped over, and pictures swirled like a vortex around him
his parents were at the entrance, trying in vain to get to him
he had never been effect this bad from the lunar eclipse before, so they had no idea what was triggering it now
and thats what you saw as you ran into the house
soonyoung looked up just in time to see you get swept off your feet, crashing into the rubble that surrounded him
in an instant the force stopped, but it was too late
you laid motionless on the floor
his mother rushed towards you
while his father gathered soonyoung in his arms
soonyoung kept trying to rush towards you, but his father held him back
worried he might do something triggered by his emotion
in an instant, soonyoung was gone, transported to his uncles farmhouse
where he would stay until he was able to control his powers
for years soonyoung trained, working to make sure nothing happened like that night again
his uncle nicknamed him Hoshi, for his connection to the sky and stars
that fateful night, as it turns out, was his presentation
just as his mother presented towards the water, and his father the soil
the lunar eclipse triggered his powers, unlocking them early
despite knowing that the accident was just that, an accident, soonyoung vowed to never let his powers get control of his again
so he trained, and trained, until he was able to laugh without unintentionally throwing his bagel across the room
or get upset without flooding the bathroom
instead of fearing the dazzling light that came from his fingertips, like a ray of constellations, he learned to understand it
he convinced himself to distance himself from his old house until he was 100% in control at all times
but then his mother fell ill
nothing too serious, but she was rushed to the hospital then promptly put on bed rest
although she had called him right away to say she was okay
soonyoung had to see her, just to make sure
so he found himself in front of his house, over night bag in hand, ready to go back into the room that changed his life
but before he could put his key in the front door, it opened
soonyoung nearly fell over in shock, his mouth dropping
it had been so many years since he’d seen you
the little girl he grew up with was standing in front of his again, but it was so so different
yes, because you both had aged and matured
but because everything was different now
the unanswered questions of that night bounced between your two still bodies in between the silence
soonyoung opened his mouth, apology on the tip of his tongue
but before he could say anything
your face was burried in his sweater, his scent completely surrounding you
it had been years since you had hugged him, and you missed his hugs so much
after everything - keeping his secret from you, hurting you, vanishing without saying goodbye - you were forgiving him?
before he could return the hug you pulled back
then promptly punched him in the chest
“that’s for ditching me you, big jerk. I’m fine by the way.”
He just smiled at you, pulling you into another hug
you couldn’t help but laugh
soonyoung was finally back
