Ron Weasley and Wizard’s Chess
When he was little, Percy loved playing chess but he had no one to play it with. Until he decided to play with Ron and taught him the rules.
Ron was a fast learner and soon managed to beat Percy. He soon beat Bill, Charlie and Arthur. That’s when Arthur revealed that his own father was a brilliant chess player and gave Ron his battered old chess set.
Ron loved it and by the time he got to Hogwarts, he managed to beat all the boys in his dormitory at chess and even some of the teachers. Percy was so proud of his brother when he learned that Ron had beaten Professor McGonagall’s chess set.
Who would’ve thought that little Ronnie would be so good at chess? The cherry on the top was when Professor Dumbledore awarded Gryffindor fifty points for the best played game of chess that Hogwarts had seen.
Professor McGonagall herself was impressed that Ron had beaten her giant chess set although it would be years before she would play Ron at chess.
After the Battle of Hogwarts and once the castle was repaired, Ron had another award in the Trophy Room for the best game of chess at Hogwarts. Ron’s proudest moment however was that his Chocolate Frog Card mentioned that he was good at Wizard’s chess much to Harry and Hermione’s amusement.
"The finest school of witchcraft and wizardry in the world."
— Rubeus Hagrid's praising of Hogwarts.
